Salary Range: USD $24.00/Hr.

Overview

The Job in a Nutshell: This role requires an outgoing personality and passion for sharing nutrition knowledge and inspiring people to act and achieve their health goals. You’ll wear many hats while working in a fast-paced retail setting, conducting classes, private coaching sessions, community outreach, and retail operations (e.g., customer service, stocking shelves, cleaning, etc.). As the store’s nutrition professional, you will act as an educational resource providing science-based nutrition education/training to the store crew, customers, and community. This position is a front-line contributor to the Natural Grocers mission and plays an integral role in helping Natural Grocers improve the health and wellbeing of our communities. Through providing free nutrition education and helping people understand why their food choices matter, you will contribute to Natural Grocers' commitment to creating a sustainable, just, regenerative food system where humans, animals, and the earth can thrive. Responsibilities

  1. Acts as the nutrition education resource for customers, crew, and community.
  2. Provides customer service on the floor in the vitamin aisles (assisting customers with product purchasing, providing education resources, etc.).
  3. Performs retail operations such as maintaining customer literature files, managing the book department, stocking and facing products, assisting with cleaning the vitamin department and store, and merchandising products.
  4. Provides nutrition education through in-store classes, outreach programs, and regular training to crew. Maintains the crew wellness board and encourages participation in nutrition challenges. Responds to questions and reviews summaries.
  5. Provides private, one-on-one health coaching sessions.
  6. Builds community relationships with practitioner partners, guest presenters, event partners, etc.
  7. Seeks outreach opportunities to provide nutrition education and build brand awareness.
  8. Maintains continuing education requirements by reading research and completing CE assignments.
  9. Assists management with coordinating and executing company-wide events.
  10. Prepares materials for classes, outreach, and coaching sessions; manages orders for nutrition education supplies.
  11. Trains crew on promoting NHC services, in-store events, and promotions.
  12. Attends monthly meetings (webinars, regional and sales calls).
  13. Acts as an event ambassador during in-store guest presenter classes.

Qualifications

  1. A degree/certification in nutrition or a related field (e.g., dietetics, Bachelor of Science or Master of Biology, Biochemistry, Naturopathy).
  2. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, etc.).
  3. Excellent public speaking skills and confidence in front of an audience for cooking demonstrations and nutrition classes.
  4. Ability to engage customers and initiate conversations to promote events, services, and sales.
  5. Strong interpersonal, organizational, and time management skills.
  6. Self-motivated with a desire to grow and develop knowledge and skills.
  7. Comfortable working in a retail setting, performing retail operations such as stocking, facing, checking product expiration dates, cleaning, etc.
  8. Friendly, outgoing, and approachable demeanor.

Maintaining Nutrition Knowledge

  • If continuing education is required for your degree/certification, ensure those requirements are fulfilled.
  • If not CEC-required, maintaining 16 CE hours (or two CE units) per year is necessary.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift/carry up to 10 lbs. constantly, 11-20 lbs. frequently, 21-50 lbs. occasionally, and 51-100 lbs. with team lift.
  • Ability to push/pull up to 15 lbs. constantly, up to 100 lbs. occasionally.
  • Use of computer for data entry and mouse use.
  • Walking, standing, fine motor skills, gripping, bending, twisting, reaching regularly.

Environmental Requirements:

  • Work with sharp tools, dust, fumes, and congested areas frequently.
  • Occasional work with noise, cold, heat, wet/humid conditions, heights, and contact stress.
