The Job in a Nutshell: This role requires an outgoing personality and passion for sharing nutrition knowledge and inspiring people to act and achieve their health goals. You’ll wear many hats while working in a fast-paced retail setting, conducting classes, private coaching sessions, community outreach, and retail operations (e.g., customer service, stocking shelves, cleaning, etc.). As the store’s nutrition professional, you will act as an educational resource providing science-based nutrition education and training to the store crew, customers, and community. This position is a front-line contributor to the Natural Grocers mission and plays an integral role in helping Natural Grocers improve the health and wellbeing of our communities. Through providing free nutrition education and helping people understand why their food choices matter, you will contribute to Natural Grocers' commitment to creating a sustainable, just, regenerative food system where humans, animals, and the earth can thrive. Main Responsibilities:
- Acts as the nutrition education resource for customers, crew, and community.
- Provides customer service in the vitamin aisles, assisting customers with product purchases and education.
- Performs retail operations such as maintaining customer literature files, managing the book department, stocking and facing products, assisting with cleaning and merchandising the vitamin department and store.
- Provides nutrition education through in-store classes, outreach programs, and training sessions; maintains the crew wellness board; motivates crew participation in nutrition challenges; responds to questions and reviews summaries.
- Provides private, one-on-one health coaching sessions.
- Builds community relationships with practitioner partners, guest presenters, and event partners.
- Seeks outreach opportunities to provide nutrition education and build brand awareness.
- Maintains continuing education requirements by reviewing research and completing CE assignments.
- Assists management in organizing and executing company-wide events.
- Prepares materials for classes, outreach, and coaching sessions; manages orders for nutrition education supplies.
- Trains crew on promoting NHC services, in-store events, and promotions.
- Attends monthly meetings via webinars or calls; acts as an event ambassador for in-store guest presenter classes during floor days.
Qualifications:
- A degree or certification in nutrition or a related field (e.g., dietetics, biology, biochemistry, naturopathy).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, etc.).
- Excellent public speaking and interpersonal skills.
- Confidence in providing cooking demonstrations and nutrition education classes.
- Ability to engage customers and promote events and services.
- Strong organizational and time management skills; self-directed and team-oriented.
- Motivated to grow knowledge and skills; passionate about nutrition education.
- Comfortable performing retail operations such as stocking, cleaning, and checking product expiration dates.
- Friendly, outgoing, and approachable demeanor.
Maintaining Nutrition Knowledge:
- If continuing education is required for your degree/certification, ensure requirements are fulfilled.
- If not CEC-required, maintain 16 CE hours (or two CE units) annually.
