Job summary

ESTES PARK SCHOOL DISTRICT R-3 is seeking a Food Service Staff member to perform routine food service tasks under supervision, including grill and fryer work, cash register operation, and general cleaning. Reports to the Student Nutrition Services Coordinator.

Qualifications include a high school diploma or GED, being at least 18, and the ability to lift 50 pounds and work as part of a team. The position offers on-site work with physical demands and a structured school-year schedule.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in the preparation of foods such as meats, vegetables, baked goods, and desserts; prepares beverages, salads, sandwiches, and cold plates; prepares portioned and fast foods on grill, broiler, or deep-fat fryer.
  • Operates food production equipment such as slicers, choppers, dicers, mixers, patty-makers, and other equipment.
  • Transports food to serving areas, sets up areas, replenishes food and supplies, and serves customers; records portions served.
  • Clears tables, handles dishes and trash, and operates the dishwasher.
  • Cleans assigned area following sanitary procedures; sweeps and mops floors; vacuums carpets.
  • Ensures supplies and equipment are available; reports equipment malfunctions and needs for repair.

JOB SUMMARY

Performs routine food service tasks under general supervision or instructions in a food production and/or customer service area; prepares portioned and fast food on grill, in broiler, or in deep-fat fryer as appropriate; operates point-of-sale cash register; and washes and cleans equipment as assigned. Reports to: Student Nutrition Services Coordinator

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  1. Assists in the preparation of foods such as meats, vegetables, baked goods, and desserts; prepares food to include beverages, salads, dressings, sandwiches, and cold plates; prepares portioned and fast foods on grill, in broiler, or in deep-fat fryer as appropriate.
  2. Operates food production equipment to include slicers, choppers, dicers, mixers, vertical cutters, patty‑making machines, and other vegetable, bakery, and meat processing equipment.
  3. Transports food or supplies to serving areas; ensures that areas are properly set up; assembles and replenishes food, supplies, and equipment as required; ensures proper temperature of food in steam tables and correct counter display; takes orders, portions, and serves food to customers; records portions served according to procedure; removes, covers, wraps, labels, stores, rotates, and discards food and condiments as directed.
  4. Clears soiled dishes and refuse from tables in dining halls; scrapes refuse into garbage containers; loads trays and soiled dishes on conveyors, racks, and carts; removes and disposes of trash; sets up and operates dishwasher.
  5. Cleans assigned area following proper sanitary procedures, to include equipment, counters, work and dining tables, chairs, refrigerators, utensils, and dispensers; sweeps and mops floors; vacuums carpets.
  6. Ensures all supplies, materials, and equipment are available in assigned work areas for proper performance of duties; maintains replenishment as necessary; prepares supplies and materials as required; reports equipment malfunctions; reports need to repair equipment, furniture, building, and fixtures.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  1. Work requires the ability to read and follow instructions normally acquired through at least a partial high school education.
  2. Six months of experience in food preparation/service or equivalent.
  3. Understanding of proper sanitation procedures.
  4. Good communication skills and ability to follow instructions.
  5. Ability to operate grills, deep fryers, and various cooking equipment (and meet state age requirement for operating equipment as warranted).
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  1. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and team lift up to 80 pounds.
  2. Manual dexterity necessary to operate food preparation equipment and perform necessary cleaning.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
  1. Working conditions sometimes involve exposure to excessive heat and cold associated with kitchen environment.
  2. Exposure to various foods, cleaning chemicals, sharp utensils, and hazardous food preparation equipment.
APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS
  • Only online applications are accepted. Salary range is $18.66 - $21.12 per hour, with single benefits. Up to 175 days per year. Up to five year's credit for similar previous work experience may be granted for initial salary placement. FLSA non-exempt.
