PURPOSE

The unit manager is responsible for the daily operation of a school kitchen. At-will employee during school term (10 - month calendar), 35-40 hours weekly.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

  • Supervises, trains, and evaluates employees
  • Creates a work schedule to maintain efficiency and cost effectiveness
  • Orders, accepts deliveries, stores, and prepares food supplies
  • Controls quantity and quality of food prepared
  • Uses and maintains food service equipment in safe and sanitary surroundings
  • Report unsafe procedures or circumstances to kitchen supervisor
  • Follows and uses HACCP and SOP guidelines.
  • Inventory and food usage records
  • Serves as liaison between Nutrition Services Department, student, faculty, and parent/guardians
  • Other responsibilities as assigned by kitchen supervisor to meet the needs of the Nutrition Services program
  • Regular and punctual attendance
  • Attends scheduled manager’s meetings

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

Reports To: Director, Assistant Director and/or Field Supervisor of Nutrition Services

Supervises: Nutrition Services Cook/Cashiers

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum:

  • Minimum of three years experience in school food service or a related area.
  • Ability to learn computerized cashiering
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Ability to pass ServSafe Certification exam
  • Ability to relate positively with others
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds

ADA REQUIREMENTS

Language: Provide clear and complete instruction, Read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos in English; Write simple correspondence; Communicate one on one and in small groups; Maintain appropriate relationships with students and coworkers.These are essential functions of the job.

Computation: Add, subtract multiply and divide and perform those operations using units of US Currency, and weight, volume and distance measurements.These are essential functions of the job.

Reasoning: Comprehend and follow detailed but basic written or oral instructions; Solve simple problems with few variables in stable conditions.These are essential functions of the job.

Technology: Operate a computerized cash register, department specific software and Microsoft outlook.These are essential functions of the job.

Attendance: Consistent and regular attendance is an essential function of this position.

Conditions and Environment : While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally work in temperatures that exceed 100 degrees Fahrenheit and between 15-32 degrees Fahrenheit. The work environment is frequently quite loud; employees may need to raise voices to be heard. There is a greater than average risk of minor burns and cuts.These are essential functions of the job.
