Job Summary
  • The Head Cook provides quality, appetizing, prepared, and well-presented menu items for patients, residents, employees, visitors, and catered meals. Ensures exceptional care and service at all times. Provides training and leadership to other cooks and staff. Performs various food service activities to meet cleanliness standards and regulations.
Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or GED; or 1-3 months of related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
  • Valid driver’s license and automobile liability insurance are required.
Essential Functions
  • Serve as head cook for assigned meal(s).
  • Provide training and leadership to other cooks and staff.
  • Prepare menu items maintaining proper temperatures for food safety.
  • Prepare foods according to IDDSI standards and dietary plans. Ensure meats and casseroles reach safe temperatures.
  • Properly cool leftovers within the specified timeframe.
  • Label and date all ingredients and food items.
  • Maintain kitchen cleanliness and use leftovers safely and cost-effectively. Discard out-of-date or questionable items.
  • Monitor temperatures of freezers and refrigerators daily and report issues.
  • Assist in training new cooks/staff in sanitation and safety. Support neighborhood teams.
  • Assist in checking in and storing freight.
  • Use food service chemicals safely, understanding Material Safety Data Sheets.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
