Job summary

Qualifications

• Educate participants on program benefits, rights, responsibilities, and shopping procedures.
• Perform anthropometric measurements and health assessments for WIC participants.
• Enter participant information into the LA WIC system and conduct screenings.
• Review vaccination records and refer participants to health resources.
• Collect blood samples and perform hemoglobin testing as required.
• Schedule appointments and follow up on missed services.

• One year of experience in nutritional education or counseling, food service, or administrative services; OR
• Six semester hours in food and/or nutrition services; OR
• One year of vocational or technical school training in a dietetic assistant curriculum.

EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION:

Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience.

No Civil Service test score is required in order to be considered for this vacancy.

Job Duties:

• Provides direct nutrition education and outreach to pregnant women, postpartum and breastfeeding women, infants, and children.
• Educates WIC participants and caregivers on program benefits, participant rights and responsibilities, WIC-approved foods, and shopping procedures.
• Performs anthropometric measurements and health assessments for WIC participants.
• Conducts income and nutrition screenings and enters participant information into the LA WIC system.
• Reviews and assesses participant vaccination records and provides referrals to appropriate health and community resources.
• Collects blood samples and performs hemoglobin testing for WIC participants in accordance with program requirements.
• Schedules WIC appointments and follows up with participants regarding missed appointments and required services.
