Job summary

University Hospital in Newark, NJ is seeking a Diet Control Assistant for part-time day shifts to support patient nutrition services across age groups from infant to geriatric. You will deliver meals, adjust menus to diet orders, and maintain patient meal records in a confidential, patient-centered environment.

You will collaborate with care teams, ensure timely meal delivery, and contribute to quality Food & Nutrition services while upholding safety and accuracy in a fast-paced hospital setting.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• At least 1 year of Food Service, Customer Service, and/or hospitality experience.
• Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English fluently.
• Effective verbal and written communications.
• Customer service and hospitality-oriented.
• Attention to detail with appropriate follow-through.
• Ability to work effectively as a team member.
• Ability to establish effective relationships within a multi-cultural environment.

Responsibilities

• Maintains electronic patient card files.
• Modifies menu to comply with diet order prescriptions/meal patterns.
• Formulates patient meal supplements and nourishments.
• Delivers meals and snacks per policy and procedures; retrieves patient meal trays.
• Communicates with patients across developmental and cognitive levels.
• Calculates production requirements for meals, including tallied items.
