Housing & Food Services (HFS) has an outstanding opportunity for a Nutrition and Wellness Specialist to plan, develop, evaluate, and implement programs and services to meet the nutritional needs of the student and campus population, including managing the oversight of the Dining Services food safety program related to nutrition and allergens. This position also assists in the maintenance and operation of the menu management system.
Responsibilities
- Manage and oversee Medically Related Dietary Response process and support the student experience related to nutritional evaluation, guidance, and planning.
- Provide one-on-one nutritional assessments, counseling, and support through the HFS Dining Site and Student Services Office.
- Assist students on medically restricted diets by providing relevant nutrition counseling.
- Develop nutrition education materials and programs for students.
- Coordinate with marketing to serve as a nutritional resource for media.
- Address student and parental concerns regarding nutritional needs with follow-up.
- Serve as a preceptor for clinical nutrition and food service interns.
Operational Support
- Manage operational compliance with nutritional standards.
- Set nutritional goals for dining operations and consult on recipe development.
- Ensure menu and recipe compliance with nutrition and allergen guidelines.
- Collaborate with campus partners such as Public Health, Whole U, Athletics, and Health & Wellness.
- Conduct safety meetings, participate in emergency planning, and develop safety training materials.
- Perform audits to validate compliance and represent UW Dining at industry meetings.
Menu Management Support
- Support data entry and validation for recipes and menu systems.
- Provide expertise and support for online nutrition resources.
Nutritional Standards
- Oversee development and standardization of nutritional goals.
- Support nutritional program evaluation and develop health promotion initiatives.
This position ensures high-quality, nutritious food is available and supports menu management systems. It requires influencing without direct authority, using data and professional credibility to achieve compliance and foster collaboration.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in dietetics, nutrition, or related field.
- Registered and licensed dietitian.
- Two years of experience in menu development, nutrition research, and team training.
Preferred
- Leadership experience in food services.
- Experience with menu management systems and policy development.
- Strong problem-solving, integrity, and mentorship qualities.
Conditions of Employment
- Successful background check and education verification.
- Washington State Food Handler's Card and ServSafe Manager certification within three months.
- Other certifications as specified.
