Job summary

MedVet in Cincinnati is seeking a Nursing Veterinary Assistant to join our fast-paced emergency and specialty team. You will supervise patients, assist with recovery, phlebotomy, IVs, and client education, while supporting DVMs and the care team.

Proposed schedule: Mondays and Tuesdays 7pm–7:30am and every other weekend 7pm–7:30am. Prior veterinary experience is required; strong communication, accurate drug calculations, and adaptability are essential to provide high quality care.

Qualifications

• Prior veterinary experience required.
• Proficient in calculations (drugs, CRIs, unit conversions).
• Flexibility with work hours and ability to work additional hours.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Record and deliver organized rounds, discuss cases and gather information.
• Partner with patient care team regarding treatment plans and nursing care concerns.
• Provide client education on home care, medications and wellness.
• Assist DVM with patient assessment, treatment and procedures.
• Provide monitoring and nursing care to hospitalized patients.
• Perform in-house laboratory testing and prepare samples for outside lab testing.

We are looking for:

Nursing Veterinary Assistant

Proposed work schedule: Mondays and Tuesdays from 7p-7:30a and every other weekend from 7p-7:30a (full-time schedule)

Never a dull moment in the Nursing department! Our patients need constant supervision to ensure treatment plans are being executed. This department is perfect for someone who can identify patient distress and react accordingly, enjoys phlebotomy, placing IV catheters, assisting with recovery and client follow up and education.

What you’ll do:

• Record and deliver organized rounds, discuss cases and gather additional information as necessary
• Partner with patient care team regarding treatment plans, client communication and nursing care concerns
• Provide client education including, but not limited to: home care instructions, medications (indications, adverse reactions) and general wellness updates on hospitalized patients
• Assist DVM with patient assessment, treatment and procedures
• Provide monitoring and nursing care to hospitalized patients
• Perform in-house laboratory testing and prepare samples for outside laboratory testing

Who you are:

• Prior veterinary experience required, previous nursing or critical care experience desired
• Proficient in calculations (drugs, constant rate infusions, unit conversions, etc.)
• Flexibility with work hours and able to work additional hours when necessary
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
