Job summary

McLaren Health Care in Michigan seeks a Unit Assistant on 5 North Medical/Surgical Oncology to support nursing operations and patient care. You will handle administrative tasks, patient data, and direct patient assistance under nursing supervision.

Requires a high school diploma or equivalent and a CNA or 6 months experience, plus 1 year of related unit or front office experience and BLS. Day shift with varied times and no on-call.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• State Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or 6 months experience.
• One year prior unit assistant or front medical office secretarial experience unless graduate of a relevant training program.
• One month of job-related experience and/or training.
• BLS certification is required.

Responsibilities

• Helps patients by responding to intercom requests; obtaining needed services from nurses, licensed practical nurses, physicians, aides, and other hospital personnel.
• Performs varied administrative tasks such as answering the phone, greeting visitors, maintaining department logs & reports, scheduling appointments, typing, filing, copying, faxing and ordering office supplies and equipment supplies to ensure the functionality and coordination of the department’s activities.
• Performs a variety of computer/data entry functions to support patient care including establishing and maintaining patient record; may enter nursing and physician notes and orders; handling the majority of a patient's paperwork, such as discharge, admission, and personal information forms.
• Provides physical support for patients with daily activities and personal hygiene, including bathing, dressing, getting out of bed, using the toilet, walking, standing or exercising.
• Maintains safe and clean working environment and protects patients and employees by adhering to infection-control, hazardous waste and other policies and protocols.
• Provides for admission and discharge needs of pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients under the supervision of licensed nursing staff.
