Job summary

The University of Iowa Health Care Department of Nursing is seeking a Nursing Unit Clerk to perform clerical, reception, and related duties for patients and staff on the Stead Family Children’s Hospital unit in Iowa City.

Responsibilities include coordinating with care teams, updating census and ADT entries, processing charges, handling messages, and assisting during emergencies while maintaining accurate records and hospital terminology.

Qualifications

• Graduation from high school with one year of clerical/health care experience (or two years total).
• Clerical and health care experience may be combined for eligibility.
• Preferred: 6 months clerical experience, public/customer service experience, medical terminology, MS Word and MS Excel proficiency.

Responsibilities

• Greet and assist patients and visitors; relay messages to care teams.
• Maintain electronic communication systems and update white boards daily.
• Answer calls, schedule tests, and help with admissions and census.
• Process patient charges and ensure accurate records.
• Assist during emergencies and staff meetings; manage supplies.
