Job summary

OrthoIndy Hospital in Greenwood, IN is seeking a Nursing Technician for the PACU to support RN duties, perform vital signs, phlebotomy, casts, and patient transport. This is a full-time position in a fast-paced surgical unit.

The role requires a CNA license or nursing student status and BLS. It offers a stable, year-round schedule with full benefits and a focus on teamwork and patient safety.

Qualifications

• HS Diploma or GED required; CNA license and 1–2 years patient care preferred.
• Valid BLS certification required.
• Nursing student with clinical rotations acceptable or 1–2 years direct patient care in hospital setting with ability to obtain CNA within six months.

Responsibilities

• Obtain and report vital signs and fluid intake/output.
• Discontinue IV lines and urinary catheters as directed by RN and document removal.
• Assist in cleaning equipment and surfaces using aseptic technique.
• Restock linens and supplies on the unit and order items.
• Perform phlebotomy as directed by RN.
• Perform urine pregnancy tests and blood glucose tests as directed by RNs.
• Provide skin care as directed by RN.
• Reinforce patient and family education as directed by RN.
• Perform EKGs and bladder scans as directed by RN.
• Transport patients to other units as needed.
• Perform cast cutting and Ted Hose measurement/application.

Shift Details: Full-time, four 10-hour weekday shifts, 6:00 am - 4:30 pm with rotating day off. No weekends and we are closed the six major holidays each year! Full benefits included!

OrthoIndyHospital South, located in Greenwood,Indiana, providesoutpatient care and inpatient care, with four operatingrooms and a 15-bed inpatient unit for patients undergoing more invasiveprocedures, such as disc replacement, spinal fusion or total hip and knee jointreplacement. Other services include an urgent care, clinics,imaging and physical therapy.

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

The Nursing Technician PPOP PACU works under the direction of the Registered Nurse (RN), preforming a variety of tasks delegated by the RN in order to care for patients. The Nursing Technician completes assigned tasks and reports information about patients to the RN. The Nursing Technician assists with obtaining vitals, and other taught skills as trained by OrthoIndy.

• Obtains and reports vital signs and fluid intake and output. Discontinues IV lines and urinary catheters as directed by the Registered Nurse and documents removal. Observes and reports patient conditions and behaviors to the Registered Nurse.
  
• Assists in the cleaning of equipment, furniture, and surfaces using appropriate aseptic technique and returns equipment to appropriate areas as needed.
  
• Restocks linens and supplies on the unit. Orders linen, café items for patient care.
  
• Performs phlebotomy as directed by the Registered Nurse.
  
• Performs Urine Pregnancy Tests, and blood sugars for patients as directed by Registered Nurses.
  
• Provides skin care as directed by the Registered Nurse.
  
• Reinforces patients and family education as directed by the Registered Nurse.
  
• Performs EKGs and bladder scans when directed by the Registered Nurse.
  
• Transports patients to other units, upon dismissal, and as necessary.
  
• Performs Cast Cutting, Ted Hose measurement and application.

Requirements:

• High School Diploma or GED required; specialty training beyond high school preferred
• Valid Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) license and 1-2 years of patient care experience required, OR Nursing student with one semester of completed clinical rotations required, OR a minimum of 1-2 years direct patient care experiencewithin a hospital setting and ability to earn CNA certification within six months of start date.
• BLS certification required
