The Nursing Support Technician (NST), under the supervision of the Professional Registered Nurse, the Licensed Practical Nurse, and/or the Physician, provides age-appropriate, culturally and ethnically sensitive care. The NST maintains a safe environment, collects information, communicates effectively, and utilizes technology. They provide personal care to selected patients, assist with activities of daily living, offer comfort measures and nourishments, and perform delegated tasks and therapies as authorized by a licensed professional. The NST primarily functions in inpatient settings. The role also includes patient advocacy, teaching, and performance improvement. Additionally, NSTs may be cross-trained to serve as patient safety monitors and/or unit clerks, and are expected to perform both basic and advanced skills as determined by competency validation.
