Job summary

University of Chicago Medicine is seeking a Nursing Support Assistant (CNA) to assist with patient care under RN supervision in the 10W Hematology Oncology unit at Hyde Park. The role focuses on basic care, vital signs, and daily activities, supporting both patients and the healthcare team.

This part-time position (0.6 FTE) offers night shifts and opportunities to contribute to high-quality, compassionate care, including discharge prep and maintaining a clean, safe patient environment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Must be listed on the IDPH Health Care Worker Registry as Illinois CNA or a nursing student listed on HCWR.
• CPR/BLS Certification.
• Ability to read, write, and follow instructions with basic math.
• Clear verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work with management and staff.
• Occasional lifting up to 50 lbs.
• Physical effort including standing, walking, and CPR as needed.
• Attention to details and ability to focus under pressure.

Responsibilities

• Provides basic patient care activities including vital signs and simple tests.
• Assists patients with activities of daily living with proper infection control.
• Assists with personal hygiene, ambulation and nourishment.
• Completes procedures such as collecting specimens and weighing patients.
• Assists with discharge and transfer preparation.
• Maintains patient environment and room readiness.
• Manages supplies and equipment and documents activities.
• Initiates CPR and calls for supervision when needed.
• Performs receptionist duties for the assigned area.
