Job summary

Vail Health is seeking a RN leader to support hospital operations, working with patient care leadership, physicians, and staff to ensure safe, compliant, and efficient patient care. This role emphasizes throughput, resource stewardship, and coordination of transfers, with a focus on patient satisfaction and staff well-being.

The position is PRN/night shift, with a 16% PRN differential. Requires Colorado RN licensure, BLS, and a strong commitment to just culture and hospital policy adherence.

Qualifications

  • Five years acute care clinical experience required.
  • Two years of leadership experience preferred.
  • Associate Degree in Nursing is required; Bachelor or Master of Science in nursing is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Manages resources to promote patient safety, staff well-being, and fiscal responsibility.
  • Ensures staffing levels and minimizes overtime in accordance with labor laws.
  • Ensures availability of necessary supplies and limits waste.
  • Facilitates timely patient throughput via interdepartmental collaboration.
  • Coordinates transfers to/from outside facilities with proper hand-offs and EMTALA compliance.
  • Collaborates with quality and leadership to ensure policy, documentation, and best practices.

About the opportunity:

This position works collaboratively with the patient care leadership team, hospital medical providers, unit leaders and staff, and multidisciplinary team members to ensure hospital operations run according to policy and regulations and align with Vail Health’s mission, vision, and values. Responsibilities include being a resource for staff; monitoring for and driving compliance to standards; managing hospital resources in a manner that maintains stewardship and safety; participating and providing leadership in emergent situations; escalating issues as needed to department or executive leadership; ensuring safe, compliant, and coordinated transfer of all patients in or out of the facility; completing necessary follow-up and documentation for all hospital deaths; facilitating the right care at the right time in the right location through timely throughput; and promoting customer service and patient satisfaction. The ability to effectively communicate, collaborate with team members, and maintain professionalism are key qualities for success in this role.

This is a PRN or as needed, night shift position. Eligible for 16% PRN Differential.

What you will do:
  • Manages resources in a manner that promotes patient safety, staff well-being, and fiscal responsibility.
  • Ensures appropriate staffing levels, avoiding overtime and promoting staff breaks in accordance with labor laws.
  • Ensures availability of necessary supplies, limiting waste.
  • Facilitates timely patient throughput via collaboration with interdepartmental teams, promoting the right care in the right location at the right time.
  • Coordinates transfers to and from outside facilities, ensuring adequate hand-off, coordination of care, and compliance with EMTALA regulations.
  • Collaborates with hospital quality department and department leadership to facilitate, educate, and monitor for compliance with regulatory standards, hospital policy, documentation requirements, and evidence-based practice initiatives.
  • Responds to hospital emergencies and ensures appropriate documentation of event including debrief summary.
  • Provides follow-up and completion of all tasks and documentation related to hospital deaths, including coordination with county coroner, Donor Alliance, and mortuary services.
  • Answers call lights and provides clinical assistance as needed; meets with patients or family members upon request or via rounding to ensure patient satisfaction with care; provides service recovery as needed through collaboration with Patient Advocate.
  • Follows chain-of-command and escalates issues to department or executive leadership as appropriate.
  • Role models the principles of a Just Culture and Organizational Values.
  • Must be HIPAA compliant

What you will need:
Experience:
  • Five years acute care clinical experience required.

  • Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the state of Colorado or from a valid compact state required

Pay is based upon relevant education and experience per hour.
