Job summary

Summary

Supports the patient care team by performing multifunctional activities such as direct patient care, under the direction of a Registered Nurse and administrative/clerical support.

Minimum Qualifications

Formal Education Required: Must be enrolled as a full time or part time student in an accredited associate degree or bachelor's degree nursing program and have completed the first clinical rotation.
Nursing Student Tech (NST) Conditions of Eligibility: An employee may remain in the NST job post-graduation and pre-licensure up to six (6) months after which their eligibility to stay employed as an NST will cease.
Experience and Training Required: Must complete Summa's orientation; Current BLS-HCP card upon hire and maintained thereafter.
Other Skills, Competencies and Qualifications: Ability to read and write English, follow written and oral instructions and perform basic mathematical functions; Ability to work well within a team environment: by accepting and offering honest and constructive feedback; by supporting team goals and encouraging other team members; and by collaborating with patient care members to consolidate work, solve problems, create new methods and/or reduce costs; Ability to understand and carry out the vision of patient care at Summa: to create a patient care environment that is focused on the needs and expectations of the patient, our customer; Ability to be self-directed in executing responsibilities within a team structure; Ability to take initiative to contribute beyond the scope of formal duties (e.g., suggesting innovative ideas and providing feedback on a team's direction); Shows flexibility/adaptability in meeting environmental constraints and demands placed on services as is common with changing reimbursement and managed care targets; Ability to stand/walk for extended periods of time, frequent pushing, pulling and lifting of patients, cleaning equipment, and materials; Ability to provide necessary care for patients (i.e. neonate/newborns, children, adolescents, young adults, middle-aged adults, and geriatric adults) as required by position; Population Specific Competency: Ability to effectively interact with populations of patients/customers with an understanding of their needs for self-respect and dignity.
Level of Physical Demands: Heavy: Exerts 50-100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or ten to 20 pounds of force continuously to move objects.; Exposure to blood and body fluids and sharps; risks to falls, strains, contagious diseases, etc.

Many factors, such as years of relevant experience and geographical location are considered when determining the starting rate of pay.
