Job summary

Summa Health is seeking a Nursing Student Tech (NST) for PRN night shifts on the NST - 7E Oncology Medical Unit. The role supports patient care under supervision, participates in basic nursing tasks, and assists the team with administrative duties to ensure smooth patient flow.

You must be enrolled in an accredited nursing program, complete orientation, and maintain BLS-HCP certification. This position offers a pathway to hands-on clinical experience in a busy hospital environment.

Qualifications

• Must be enrolled in an accredited associate or bachelor's nursing program and have completed the first clinical rotation.
• Must complete Summa’s orientation and maintain current BLS-HCP at hire.
• Ability to read and write English and follow instructions.

Summary

Supports the patient care team by performing multifunctional activities such as direct patient care, under the direction of a Registered Nurse and administrative/clerical support.

Minimum Qualifications

• Formal Education Required:
• Must be enrolled as a full time or part time student in an accredited associate degree or bachelor’s degree nursing program and have completed the first clinical rotation.
• Nursing Student Tech (NST) Conditions of Eligibility:
• An employee may remain in the NST job post-graduation and pre-licensure up to six (6) months after which their eligibility to stay employed as an NST will cease.
• Experience and Training Required:
• Must complete Summa’s orientation
• Current BLS-HCP card upon hire and maintained thereafter
• Other Skills, Competencies and Qualifications:
• Ability to read and write English, follow written and oral instructions and perform basic mathematical functions

• Population Specific Competency: Ability to effectively interact with populations of patients/customers with an understanding of their needs for self-respect and dignity
• Level of Physical Demands:
• Heavy: Exerts 50-100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or ten to 20 pounds of force continuously to move objects.
• Exposure to blood and body fluids and sharps; risks to falls, strains, contagious diseases, etc.
