Job summary

Covista is seeking a Specialist to support nursing students in an academic environment, providing strategies and remediation to prepare for NCLEX-RN success. The role involves individualized coaching, simulation-based labs, and collaboration with faculty to align with program outcomes.

Responsibilities include leading simulation activities, documenting progress, and developing high-quality remediation plans.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in nursing is required.
  • Master’s Degree in Education is preferred.
  • Master’s Degree in Nursing is preferred.
  • 1+ year experience in an academic environment supporting classroom instruction or tutoring is preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills across telephone, computer, and in person.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Attention to detail and proofreading skills.
  • Ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Team player and collaborative mindset.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitation of simulation-based experiences (SBE) and labs, including equipment maintenance and setup/cleanup.
  • Provide NCLEX-RN content knowledge and currency to support academic success.
  • Assist in creating Next Generation NCLEX activities/workshops.
  • Document and report student progress to academic leadership.
  • Develop and implement clinically based scenarios for simulations using high-fidelity simulators.
  • Coordinate and supervise lab experiences to meet course objectives.
  • Offer individual or group tutoring and outreach to at-risk students.
  • Perform other duties and maintain compliance with policies.

Job Description

Collaborating with academic partners, faculty and staff, the Specialist provides strategies and academic reinforcement to students throughout their academic program and as they prepare for success with the NCLEX‑RN exam. Working with students individually and in small groups, the Specialist assesses learning styles, identifies strengths, and discovers opportunities for academic development. Specialists create and implement personalized remediation plans for our students as they prepare for academic and professional success. In addition, the Specialist supports all clinical learning lab and simulated patient care learning experiences for students.

Responsibilities
  • Facilitation of simulation‑based experiences (SBE) and labs to include equipment maintenance, ordering supplies, set‑up and clean‑up.
  • Demonstrates current, detailed, accurate knowledge of concepts tested by the NCLEX‑RN as well as currency in nursing practice to provide academic support.
  • Assists in the creation of Next Generation NCLEX activities/workshops.
  • Demonstrates effective behaviors and accountability in meeting the following standards of service excellence to students, fellow team members, and external agencies: Friendliness and courtesy, professional environment, effective communication, and first‑class service.
  • Communicates and documents (reporting) students’ academic and co‑curricular progress toward achievement of student and program learning outcomes to academic leadership (i.e., retention committee).
  • Assists in developing and implementing detailed clinically based scenarios for the simulated learning experiences, including use of high‑fidelity patient simulators.
  • Coordinates and supervises lab experiences to ensure that students have the opportunity to meet course objectives.
  • Staffs open lab; provides individual oversight to students during practice and/or remediation of technical nursing skills as required by course objectives.
  • Individual or group tutoring.
  • Participates in outreach to students with at‑risk referrals.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Complies with all policies and standards.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in nursing (Required).
  • Master’s Degree in Education (Preferred).
  • Master’s Degree in Nursing (Preferred).
  • 1+ year experience in an academic environment supporting classroom instruction or specialized tutoring support (Preferred).
  • Excellent communication skills with proven ability to communicate via telephone, computer, and in person.
  • Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills.
  • Must have excellent attention to detail and proofreading skills.
  • Ability to work with individuals from diverse cultural and professional backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (especially Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).
  • Must be a team player, willing to share and exchange.
  • Maintenance of a current, unencumbered RN license (Required).
  • BLS CPR (Required).
  • BLS CPR instructor certification (Required).
  • ACLS and/or PALS (Preferred).
Additional Information

In support of the pay transparency laws enacted across the country, the expected salary range for this position is between $70,000 and $87,000. Actual pay will be adjusted based on job‑related factors permitted by law, such as experience and training; geographic location; licensure and certifications; market factors; departmental budgets; and responsibility.
