Job summary

Chamberlain University is seeking a Nursing Specialist to provide targeted academic reinforcement to students throughout their program and NCLEX-RN preparation. Working with individuals and small groups, the Specialist assesses learning styles, identifies strengths, and designs remediation plans while supporting clinical learning labs and simulated patient care experiences.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in nursing required.
  • Master's Degree in Nursing preferred.
  • 1+ year experience in an academic environment supporting classroom instruction or tutoring preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills via telephone, computer, and in person.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Must have excellent attention to detail and proofreading skills.
  • Ability to work with individuals from diverse cultural and professional backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (especially Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).
  • Must be a team player.
  • Maintenance of a current, unencumbered RN license Required.
  • BLS CPR Required
  • BLS CPR instructor certification
  • ACLS and /or PALS Preferred

Responsibilities

  • Facilitation of simulation-based experiences (SBE) and labs to include equipment maintenance, ordering supplies, set-up and clean-up
  • Demonstrates current, detailed, accurate knowledge of NCLEX concepts and nursing practice to provide academic support
  • Assists in the creation of Next Generation NCLEX activities/workshops
  • Demonstrates effective behaviors and accountability in meeting standards of service excellence to students and colleagues
  • Communicates and documents student progress toward learning outcomes to academic leadership
  • Assists in developing clinically based scenarios for simulations
  • Coordinates and supervises lab experiences to meet course objectives
  • Staffs open lab; provides individual oversight during practice/remediation of nursing skills
  • Individual or group tutoring
  • Participates in outreach to students with at-risk referrals
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Job Description
Opportunity at a Glance

Collaborating with academic partners, faculty and staff, the Specialist provides strategies and academic reinforcement to students throughout their academic program and as they prepare for success with the NCLEX-RN exam. Working with students individually and in small groups, the Specialist assesses learning styles, identifies strengths, and discovers opportunities for academic development. Specialists create and implement personalized remediation plans for our students as they prepare for academic and professional success. In addition, the Specialist supports all clinical learning lab and simulated patient care learning experiences for students.

Responsibilities
  • Facilitation of simulation-based experiences (SBE) and labs to include equipment maintenance, ordering supplies, set-up and clean-up
  • Demonstrates current, detailed, accurate knowledge of concepts tested by the NCLEX-RN as well as currency in nursing practice to provide academic support
  • Assists in the creation of Next Generation NCLEX activities/workshops
  • Demonstrates effective behaviors and accountability in meeting the following standards of service excellence to students, fellow team members, and external agencies: Friendliness and courtesy, professional environment, effective communication, and first-class service
  • Communicates and documents (reporting) students’ academic and co-curricular progress toward achievement of student and program learning outcomes to academic leadership (i.e., retention committee)
  • Assists in developing and implementing detailed clinically based scenarios for the simulated learning experiences, including use of high-fidelity patient simulators
  • Coordinates and supervises lab experiences to ensure that students have the opportunity to meet course objectives
  • Staffs open lab; Provides individual oversight to students during practice and/or remediation of technical nursing skills as required by course objectives
  • Individual or group tutoring
  • Participates in outreach to students with at-risk referrals
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Additional Information

In support of the pay transparency laws enacted across the country, the expected salary range for this position is between $75,000.00 and $85,000.00. Actual pay will be adjusted based on job-related factors permitted by law, such as experience and training; geographic location; licensure and certifications; market factors; departmental budgets; and responsibility.
