Job summary

Fairview Health Services is seeking a Nursing Station Technician for the M Health Fairview University of Minnesota Medical Center – West Bank Campus. The role combines Nursing Assistant and Health Unit Coordinator duties on a 0.75 FTE night shift (12-hour) with every third weekend.

You will deliver patient care under a nurse’s supervision, handle admissions and charting, assist with admissions/discharges, and manage patient rooms and supplies on a fast-paced orthopaedic unit.

Qualifications

• AND ONE or more of the following:
• Six months of direct care experience in long term, home care or acute care setting.
• Current enrollment in an LPN, RN or Nurse Practitioner program, and completion of one semester of clinical rotation.
• Current certification on the Minnesota Nursing Assistant Registry upon hire.

Responsibilities

• Assists professional caregiver in delivery of patient care (hygiene, vitals, daily activities, repositioning, transporting, feeding).
• Transporting patient and/or equipment.
• 1:1 sitting with patients.
• Setting up and maintaining patient rooms.
• Reordering and stocking supplies.
• Answering phones and processing admissions, discharges and transfers, transcribing orders, assembling patient charts and ordering tests.

The starting base rate of pay for the Nursing Station Technician is $24.16 Candidates with experience may be brought in at a higher rate of pay.

This position will s 0.75 FTE (60 hours per pay period) on the NIGHT Shift, 12 hour variable shifts, every third weekend.

About this unit:

This is a 24 bed ortho unit with patients experiencing a range of conditions, including but not limited to:

• Sepsis
• Overdoses/Withdrawals
• Surgical procedures
• Telemetry
• Diabetes
• Pneumonia
• Altered mental status (AMS)

About this Role: The NST is a hybrid position consisting of both Nursing Assistant and Health Unit Coordinator roles to deliver direct patient care and administrative duties.

In this role, you will work under the direct supervision of a nurse to demonstrate excellent customer service, collaboration and interpersonal skills with patients, families, and the healthcare team on a fasted paced unit. The NST will work under the direct supervision of a professional nurse to demonstrate excellent customer service, teamwork and communication skills with patients, families, and the healthcare team on a fasted paced unit. Other job duties include:

• Assists the professional caregiver in the delivery of patient care such as personal hygiene, vitals, daily activities, repositioning, transporting, and feeding
• Transporting patient and/or equipment
• 1:1 sitting with patients
• Setting up and maintaining patient rooms
• Reordering, and stocking supplies
• Answering phones, processing admissions, discharging and transferring forms, transcribing orders, assembling patient charts and ordering tests

Qualifications to Fulfill Job Responsibilities:

AND ONE or more of the following:

• Successful completion of Fairview’s OnTrack Nursing Assistant training program.
• Six months of recent direct care experience in a long term, home care or acute care setting. (Appropriate roles may include, Nursing Assistant, PCA, Resident Assistant or Emergency Room Technician)
• Current enrollment in an LPN, RN or Nurse Practitioner program, and completion of one (1) semester of clinical rotation within the program
• Current certification on the Minnesota Nursing Assistant Registry upon hire. This requirement does not need to be maintained throughout employment and is not required if subsequently transferring into another Nursing Assistant or Nursing Station Tech or Nursing Station Attendant position
