Job Overview

Fairview is seeking a Nursing Station Technician (NST) at UMMC-East Bank! This position is 0.6 FTE (48 hours per two weeks), with 12-hour DAY shifts and an every-third-weekend rotation.

About this position:

The University of Minnesota Medical Center (UMMC) is an integrated academic health care system comprising two hospitals and numerous adult specialty clinics located on the East and West banks of the UMMC campus in Minneapolis. It is Fairview's flagship facility, providing innovative medicine and advancing community health.

The Nursing Station Technician role is a hybrid position combining Nursing Assistant and Health Unit Coordinator duties to provide direct patient care and administrative support.

Under the supervision of a professional nurse, you will demonstrate excellent customer service, teamwork, and communication skills with patients, families, and the healthcare team on a fast-paced unit. Key responsibilities include:

• Patient care such as personal hygiene, vital signs, daily activities, repositioning, transporting, and feeding
• Maintaining unit desk functions such as answering phones, processing admissions, discharges, and transfers, transcribing orders, assembling patient charts, and ordering tests
• Setting up and maintaining patient rooms
• Ordering and stocking supplies

License/Certification/Registration:

Minimum Qualifications:

• Basic Life Support (BLS for Healthcare Providers) certification is required. OnTrack participants must obtain BLS certification upon completing the program.

• Successful completion of Fairview’s OnTrack Nursing Assistant training program or another Fairview-sponsored Nursing Assistant program.

• Six months of recent direct care experience in a long-term, home care, or acute care setting (e.g., Nursing Assistant, PCA, Resident Assistant, or Emergency Room Technician).

• Current enrollment in an LPN, RN, or Nurse Practitioner program, with at least one semester of clinical rotation completed.

• Current certification on the Minnesota Nursing Assistant Registry upon hire (not required to be maintained throughout employment unless transferring roles).

Preferred Qualifications:

• Previous experience as a Health Unit Coordinator, Nursing Assistant, or similar role.
