Job summary

MedStar Health is seeking a Nursing Professional Development leader responsible for the professional development of associates within the Department of Nursing/Patient Care Services.

You will lead the team of Nursing Professional Development Specialists/Nurse Educators as they function as educator change agents, consultants, and leaders to enhance performance and promote professional development in line with SPIRIT Values.

Qualifications

• Masters in Nursing or Nursing Education required.
• 3–4 years of progressively more responsible nursing roles.
• Experience in nursing education or professional development in an acute care setting required.
• Leadership or supervisory experience leading a team of >15 nursing educators preferred.
• Experience in a matrix reporting structure preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead the planning, development, execution, and evaluation of the MedStar Health nursing education program.
• Assess learning needs through data collection to determine gaps and priorities.
• Develop department goals, policies, and ensure adherence to regulations and accreditation standards.
• Plan orientation programs for new personnel and oversee unit-based orientation.
• Provide competency development and documentation across the department.
• Plan and implement continuing education activities and credentialing.
• Develop and manage department operating budget and resources.
• Collaborate with nurse leaders, informatics, and academia to advance practice.
• Support clinical student placements and external partnerships.
• Promote Magnet Recognition and Pathway to Excellence standards.
