Job summary

Casper College Nursing Program seeks a Nursing Instructor to teach college courses, advise students, assist with recruitment, and support accreditation activities. This is a 9-month, benefited faculty position within the School of Health Science.

The instructor conducts clinical and classroom instruction using diverse methods, maintains records, and collaborates on curriculum development and program accreditation processes.

Summary:

The position of Nursing Instructor conducts college courses in the Nursing Program for the School of Health Science, advises students, assists in recruiting students and assists with various departmental duties in accordance with departmental objectives, and participates in meeting the needs for the nursing program’s specialized accreditation.

This is a 9-month, benefited faculty position.

Responsibilities:

The faculty member conducts college nursing courses for students using a variety of appropriate teaching methods; meets all scheduled classes prepared to instruct; prepares teaching syllabi for courses of study; prepares materials to adequately evaluate student progress; reports midterm and final grades when appropriate; maintains accurate and adequate records; establishes regular office hours for student consultation.

The faculty member performs other related duties as assigned, which duties include but are not necessarily limited to: advising students on academic curricula; serving on faculty committees; participating in faculty meetings; providing recommendations for preparation of departmental budgets; participating in the development of nursing and health science curricula; participating in the accreditation process for the nursing program and institution; and adhering to all institutional policies.

The faculty member keeps up with developments in the field of nursing and health care by reading current literature, communicating with colleagues, and participating in professional development.

Additional assignments may be established where appropriate.

Essential Duties:

• Demonstrate and teach patient care in classroom and clinical units to nursing students and instructs students in principles and application of physical, biological, and psychological subjects related to nursing.
• Lecture to students, conduct and supervise laboratory work, issue assignments, and direct seminars, panels, and simulation activities.
• Supervise student nurses and demonstrate patient care in clinical units of healthcare facilities. Prepare and administer examinations, evaluates student progress, and maintain records of student classroom and clinical experiences.
• Participate in planning curriculum, teaching schedule, and course outline.
• Requires significant responsibility for others’ health, safety, and the outcomes of their work.
• Provide assistance or personal care to others.
• Complete accreditation activities as needed for the nursing program and institution.
• Cooperate with medical and nursing personnel in evaluating and improving teaching and nursing practices.
• May specialize in specific subjects, such as anatomy, chemistry, psychology, or nutrition, or in a type of nursing activity, such as nursing of medical or surgical patients.
• May conduct classes for patients in health practices and procedures.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in nursing from an accredited institution, with a commitment to obtain a master’s degree in nursing within five years of hire.

Preferred Qualification

• Master’s Degree in nursing (MSN) from an accredited institution
• Current unencumbered RN license in the state of Wyoming or eligible for licensure as an RN in the state of Wyoming
• Commitment to Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) education
• Physical abilities to meet the demands of the position with or without a reasonable accommodation

Desired Qualifications:

• Knowledge or interest in acquiring knowledge about methodology for traditional and alternative instruction and the application of technologies

Work Environment:

Work is primarily performed in a classroom, laboratory, simulation center and/or clinical setting. Work is usually performed during the normal work day; however, early morning, late evening and weekend work may be required. Short periods of time will be spent outdoors travelling between campus buildings in various weather conditions. Travel to clinical sites is required. Due to clinical settings, this position may experience exposure to diseases and infections.

Physical Demands:

Employee must be able to stand, walk, and sit for long periods of time, speak, hear, use hands and fingers to handle materials and use computer, feel, and reach with hands and arms. Frequent lifting of up to 50 pounds may be required. Work requires providing assistance or personal care to others, handling and moving objects and other general physical activities.
