Job summary

Northwest Iowa Community College is seeking a full‑time, 9‑month nursing instructor for the Health Division. The position involves classroom, lab, and clinical instruction across face‑to‑face and online formats, plus ongoing curriculum development and program improvement.

Ideal candidates hold Iowa RN licensure and a BSN, with progress toward an MSN and at least two years of nursing experience. Preference given to those with an MSN and teaching experience; bilingual English/Spanish is a plus.

Director of Nursing Programs

BASIC FUNCTION

Full-time, 9 month contract with possible supplemental time. This position includes, but is not limited to, shared responsibility for classroom (both face-to-face and online) instruction, lab and clinical instruction, as well as continued curriculum and program updating and development. Additional shared responsibilities will include program budgets, effective utilization of advisory committees, equipment utilization and updates, and other responsibilities as appropriate to the Nursing programs at the College.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required - Current licensure as a registered nurse in Iowa. Bachelor of Science in Nursing, or an applicable field. Annual progress towards Masters of Science in Nursing, if not already obtained. Two years of clinical nursing experience. Basic computer skills.

Preferred - Masters of Science in Nursing. 2 years of college level teaching experience. Bilingual in English and Spanish languages.

The successful applicant for this position will be required to meet applicable Iowa Board of Nursing criterion and new instructor criterion as established by the College Quality Faculty Plan.

DESIRED QUALITIES AND CHARACTERISTICS

• Broad knowledge of nursing at the BSN-MSN level with a solid grasp of applications in acute care, long term care, and various other healthcare settings.
• Ability to work with a wide range of students in the classroom, lab, online and clinical settings.
• Ability to provide effective instruction across the entire curriculum core to a broad spectrum of traditional and nontraditional students.
• Understanding of and agreement with the philosophy, conceptual framework, and learning outcomes of the NCC nursing program.
• Demonstrates strong oral and written communication skills.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

• Conduct effective instruction in all assigned areas, using approved course outlines.
• Develop and maintain current course syllabi/outlines for assigned courses.
• Notify the Director of Nursing Education or individual in charge as early as possible of inability to meet a class.
• Measure and evaluate student progress and maintain accurate grade computations. Submit grade reports to Student Services according to designated timelines.
• Attend all faculty and division meetings and serve on college committees as appropriate.
• Schedule and meet with program advisory committee a minimum of once per year.
• Recommend library books.
• Assist in the budgeting process by identifying instructional materials and equipment.
• Counsel, advise, and/or refer students as appropriate.
• Maintain evidence of competency achievement (knowledge and application of knowledge) and demonstrate continuous professional development as outlined in the Quality Faculty Plan.
• Assist in promotion and recruitment of the instructor's respective program(s).
• Submit requisitions for needed supplies to immediate supervisor.
• Serve as a resource person for students and graduates regarding job opportunities.
• Enforce all Northwest Iowa Community College student policies.
• Participate in professional development activities.
• Provide students written course expectations, including course objectives, attendance policy, methods of evaluation, and grading practices.
• Serve on college committees as assigned.
• Other duties as directed by the Director of Nursing Programs.
