Job summary

Forsyth Tech is seeking a full-time nursing instructor for the Nursing Department. The candidate will teach, advise, and participate in curriculum development, ensuring alignment with SACSCOC competencies.

Strong emphasis on teaching, professional development, and institutional service within a community college setting. The position requires an NC RN license, master’s degree in nursing (or on track), and experience in nursing education or clinical practice.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Nursing or on track to complete within 1 year.
• Current, unrestricted NC RN license.
• Two calendar years of full-time RN clinical experience.
• If Master’s not in nursing education, have teaching/learning prep for adult education (within 3 years).
• Ability to transport to multiple clinical agencies within workday.
• Maintain competence in assigned responsibilities.
• Knowledge of nursing practice for RN and LPN.
• Understand and be committed to Forsyth Tech College.
• Valid driver’s license with good driving record.
• Ability to work in a diverse environment.
• Experience with MS Office and/or Google Workspace, spreadsheets, presentations, and collaboration apps.

Responsibilities

• Teach nursing courses as assigned by the Director of Nursing and approved by the Dean/VP Health Sciences.
• Design and implement instructional activities that are meaningful and appropriate.
• Ensure content covers SACSCOC-approved competencies.
• Fulfill didactic, clinical and/or lab instructor duties for supervision of students.
• Maintain college records including attendance and grades.
• Develop bibliographies for outside reading where applicable.
• Evaluate student performance using course-appropriate methods.
• Meet with and advise students regarding academic progress.
• Update course descriptions, objectives, and outlines; develop new courses as needed.
• Assist in selecting supplies, equipment, and textbooks; schedule classrooms and labs.
• Participate in departmental activities to revise/update programs; help develop new programs.
• Contribute to development, implementation, and evaluation of nursing curriculum.

Job description

This team member will serve as a full-time instructor for the nursing department at Forsyth Tech. Team members can start now, in the summer, or at the start of the new academic year.

Minimum Qualifications

Required:

• Master's Degree or higher in Nursing OR be on track to complete their master’s program within one year of the start date Note: Degrees and hours must be from a college accredited by a US Department of Education accepted accrediting agency such as SACSCOC .
• Current, unrestricted license as a registered nurse in North Carolina.
• Two calendar years, or the equivalent of full-time clinical experience as a registered nurse.
• If the Graduate degree is not a degree in nursing education, prior to, or within the first three years of employment, have preparation in teaching and learning principles for adult education, including curriculum development, implementation, and evaluation appropriate to assignment. (NOTE : Documentation criteria are per the North Carolina Board of Nursing.)
• The ability to transport self to multiple clinical agencies within the workday.
• Maintain competence in the areas of assigned responsibility.
• Have current knowledge of nursing practice for the registered nurse and the licensed practical nurse.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's degree in nursing with a concentration in nursing education.
• Two academic years of experience teaching in a nursing program.
• Teaching experience at the Community College or University level.
• Certification as Certified Nurse Educator ( CNE ) encouraged.
• Experience in testing, evaluation, and curriculum development.
• Experience with distance learning and/or alternate instructional delivery methods.

Essential Duties

Teaching and Learning

• Assume responsibility for teaching assignments as recommended by the Director of Nursing, and approved by the dean or Vice President of Health Sciences.
• Facilitate the learning process by designing and implementing instructional activities that are appropriate and meaningful.
• Adhere to the departmental course guidelines and ensure that content covers SACSCOC -approved competencies.
• Fulfill the duties of didactic, clinical and/or lab instructor in supervision of students as applicable.
• Assume responsibility for maintaining all required college records including attendance, grade reports, roll books, etc.
• Compile bibliographies of specialized materials for outside reading assignments where applicable.
• Evaluate student performance using methods appropriate to the course.
• Meet with and advise students regarding academic progress.
• Assist in the maintenance, review, and updating of course descriptions, objectives, and outlines for courses of instruction and develop new courses of study as necessary.
• Make recommendations for selection of supplies, equipment, equipment repairs, textbooks for courses of study, and the scheduling of classroom and laboratory facilities.
• Participate in departmental activities relative to revising and updating the program(s) in the area of expertise.
• Assist with the development of new programs in the area of expertise.
• Participate in the development, implementation, and evaluation of the nursing curriculum.

Advising

• Participate in the development, implementation, and evaluation of student admission, progression, and graduation requirements of the nursing program.
• Assist advisees.
• Participate in department, division and college-wide advising activities.
• Learn and maintain proficiency with program requirements of assigned advisees.
• Use the computer and the college’s student information system to assist advisees.
• Follow up on all assigned advisees.
• Attend training sessions relative to advising.

Professional Development

• Develop a professional development plan that is approved by the director and dean, and participate in those activities that achieve approved professional development activities.
• Maintain current licensure, certification or other professional credentials required for position.
• Maintain membership and participation in professional organizations.
• Read professional literature.
• Keep abreast of current technology.
• Attend workshops, conferences, and professional meetings.

Institutional Service

• Adhere to all institutional policies and procedures.
• Attend all required department, division, and college-wide meetings.
• Serve on committees as required.
• Participate in college-wide activities.

• Maintain contact with specialized vocations where applicable.
• Be alert to public relations opportunities and use these to promote the college and the department.
• Assist in planning of advisory committee meetings.

• Respond coherently both verbally and in writing to students, co-workers, and individuals having contact with the College.
• Respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
