Job summary

Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters seeks a Nursing Professional Development Specialist to lead education initiatives across Patient Care Services. The role focuses on addressing practice gaps, applying adult learning theory, and guiding staff through onboarding and competency development.

Under leadership, the NPDS ensures measurable outcomes, champions NPD specialties, and collaborates on practice transitions to sustain improvements in care quality.

Qualifications

• RN license in Virginia or a valid compact state license.
• NPD certification required within 3 years of placement.
• BLS and PALS certification within 45 days of hire.
• MSN is required; a BSN may be considered for internal candidates.
• 1–2 years pediatric/neonatal clinical experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Develops educational activities to address practice gaps for all staff.
• Plans interventions using adult learning theories and motivation.
• Implements programs with evidence-based guidelines and CHKD framework.
• Coordinates orientation programs for nursing and healthcare staff.
• Supports competency assessment and prioritizes instructional strategies.
• Acts as change agent to promote culture of improvement.
• Identifies learning needs and aligns with hospital initiatives.
• Collaborates with leadership to ensure measurable outcomes.
• Mentors and promotes professional role development in NPD.
• Champions EBP and QI across patient care settings.
• Performs additional duties as assigned.
