Summary, Job Description, and Qualifications
Job Title: Nursing Director
Reports To: Chief Administrative Officer
Direct Reports: All Nursing Staff (RNs, LPNs, NPs)
Summary:
As a partner in building brighter futures for youth and their families, your role will be to provide clinical oversight to the nursing staff to ensure we are providing the best medical care to our youth that aligns with The Village Network’s Mission, Vision & Values.
Essential Tasks, Duties, and Responsibilities:
- Responsible for evaluating and implementing a medication management plan that outlines expectations and processes while maintaining compliance with all regulatory agencies, state and federal requirement including but not limited to COA, OHMAS, ODJFS, and Ohio Board of Nursing.
- Manages external medication audits in collaboration with contracted pharmacist and contracted physician.
- Collaborates with Human Resources and Regional Directors on maintaining an accurate list of employed and contracted prescribing and medical providers. This should include keeping contracts and collaborating physician documents on file with Human Resources and identifying their roles and supervisor at TVN.
- Trains all prescribers and medical staff on TVN’s Electronic Health Record. Trains medical staff on medication tracking and documentation, and medication administration. Trains clinical and direct care staff on Psychotropic Medications: 101 and any ongoing training needed. Trains administrative assistants in medical tracking and documentation.
- Creates and implements any other trainings to ensure individuals and regions are aware of relevant medical needs of youth. Ensure program meets compliance standards for relevant regulating agencies.
- Works collaboratively with Clinical Training Department and Human Resources to organize and schedule trainings.
- Oversees all prescribers directly employed or contracted with TVN in out-of-home care and outpatient programs.
- Oversees and audits the medication for clients seen by prescribers outside of TVN in out-of-home care and outpatient programs.
- Provides oversight of the Nursing staff on managing medication and prescription acquisition, distribution, and administration. Follows up to ensure proper medication procedure is followed.
- Reviews all critical incident reports related to medications errors and provides feedback and implements corrective action plans when necessary.
- Provides training and guidance regarding Medicaid coding for nursing services.
- Provides excellent internal and external customer service.
- Perform other duties as required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Bachelor’s degree in nursing or related field required; Master’s degree in nursing or related field preferred; licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN); 7-10 years previous relevant experience.
- Understands the impact of abuse and neglect on the developing brain and stress response system. Is trained in the best practice of the use of psychotropic medication in the treatment of trauma and developmental trauma.
- Ability to use a computer; proficiency in Microsoft Word, and Electronic Health Record (EHR).
- At least three years of experience working with young adult population; at least two years working with young adults with behavioral issues preferred.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; strong teamwork and organization/time management skills.
- Must possess valid Ohio Driver’s License and maintain a driving record that allows that individual to be insurable with the insurance company providing The Village Network with vehicle insurance.
- Must be willing to travel to all TVN locations when necessary.
Physical Demands:
- Occasionally move about inside the office to access filing cabinets, office machinery, etc.
- Ability to communicate (verbal and written) with all levels of personnel, internal and external to the company.
- Ability to handle bending, stooping, lifting, pushing, reaching, and walking for periods of time.
- Must be able to lift 20 pounds independently.
