Nursing Care Assistant - Ortho/Neuro - Duke Regional Hospital

Duke University Health System - Duke Regional Hospital seeks to hire a Nursing Care Assistant who will embrace our mission of Advancing Health Together.

Department Profile:

The 7-1 Ortho Neuro Unit at Duke Regional Hospital is comprised of a 40-bed floor with Orthopedics and Neuroscience specialties. This is a fast-paced, state-of-the-art orthopedic and neurosurgery unit. The unit uses enhanced recovery after surgery principles to minimize narcotic usage and facilitate quick patient recovery. Most patients stay 6-24 hours, during which they are cared for by a multidisciplinary team including nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists, care managers, pharmacists, and doctors. The unit utilizes Epic for EMR, Omnicell for medications, and Pyxis for supplies. We value teamwork and are eager to add motivated nurses to our staff.

Work Schedule:

Night shifts 7p-7a or Day shifts 7a-7p

Job Summary:

Perform a variety of nonprofessional nursing duties in direct patient care under the supervision of an RN/LPN. Handle clerical duties related to patient, unit, and hospital data and records, including operating patient care information systems.

Work Performed:
  • Assist patients with personal care (feeding, bathing, shaving, changing clothing, etc.) and meet their comfort needs.
  • Support medical and nursing staff with patient examinations, treatments, and care.
  • Record patient data in EMR and report changes to RNs.
  • Participate in patient transport.
  • Maintain cleanliness and restock supplies.
  • Operate and manage patient care information systems, verify orders, and assist with documentation.
  • Maintain patient charts, upload documents into EMR, and communicate professionally with patients and staff.
  • Navigate EMR systems, generate reports, schedule appointments, and coordinate patient transport.
  • Perform other related duties as needed.
Education:
  • Completion of a Level I - Nurse Aide program approved by the North Carolina Board of Nursing or successful completion of the NC Nurse Aide I competency test.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
Degrees, Licensure, and/or Certification:
  • Currently listed as a Nursing Assistant (NAI) with the N.C. Department of Health and Human Services Division of Health Service Regulation.
  • AHA Basic Healthcare Provider certification must be maintained or completed by the end of orientation.
