Job summary

RWJBarnabas Health is seeking a Nursing Assistant II for Newark Beth Israel Medical Center in the Nursing B6 Step Down unit. This Full-Time Night position supports RNs in providing hands-on care, monitors vitals, and helps create a safe, welcoming environment for patients at 11:00 pm–7:00 am with every other weekend and some holidays.

Requirements include a High School Diploma / GED and a current BLS certification; CNA experience or clinical nursing exposure is preferred.

Qualifications

• Must have High School Diploma or GED and a current BLS certification.
• Previous nursing assistant experience or clinical experience from an accredited program preferred or a CNA certificate.

Responsibilities

• Assist patients with activities of daily living and provide nursing care including vital signs, EKGs, phlebotomy, bedside care.
• Monitor vital signs and track patient health status.
• Document patient information accurately in EHR while maintaining confidentiality.
• Follow infection control protocols to keep patients and staff safe.
• Communicate effectively with patients, families, and providers to coordinate care plans.

You'll assist with daily needs such as vital signs, mobility, and personal care, while helping RNs monitor conditions and carry out care plans. Your attention, empathy, and teamwork help restore comfort and dignity for every patient you serve and make our mission to improve lives a reality each day.

As a Nursing Assistant (NA), a typical day may include:

• Assisting patients with activities of daily living and providing nursing care to patients including taking vital signs, EKGS, performing phlebotomy, assisting with bedside care, i.e. bathing, mouth care, skin care.
• Monitor vital signs including blood pressure, pulse, respiration, and temperature to track patient health status
• Document patient information accurately in electronic health records (EHR) systems while maintaining strict confidentiality
• Implement infection control protocols to ensure a safe environment for patients and staff, adhering to facility policies
• Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare providers to coordinate care plans and address concerns
• Support emergency response efforts by applying Basic Life Support (BLS) skills such as CPR when needed in acute situations
• Providing patient care, based on physical, education, safety, and related criteria, appropriate to the age of the patients
• Providing for effective and safe patient outcomes through practice, judgement and critical actions
• Ongoing communication with patients and nursing colleagues regarding status of patient's care
• Participating in collaboration of our patient's plan of care from admission to discharge to ensure safe transitioning

To be considered for this NA opportunity, you must have a High School Diploma / GED and a current American Heart Association BLS certification. Previous nursing assistant experience or clinical experience from an accredited nursing program is preferred or a CNA certificate. This position offers a Full-Time Night schedule from 11:00pm to 7:00am and includes every other weekend as well as some holidays.
