Job summary

SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University’s Department of Nursing is seeking a Nursing Assistant 2 for the Float Team on nights, available as full-time, part-time, or hourly positions.

The role provides direct patient care in hospital and long-term care settings, assisting with hygiene, mobility, meals, and basic treatments under supervision, and reporting observations to licensed staff. NY CNA certification or eligibility is required.

Qualifications

• 1 year of satisfactory full-time experience in the provision of simple treatment and other patient care services under professional supervision.
• Possession of current certification as a New York State Certified Nursing Assistant may substitute for the required experience.

Responsibilities

• Assists with bathing, dressing, mobility, and daily living activities.
• Changes simple dressings as directed, gives enemas, douches, and irrigations as directed.
• Assists patients in collecting urine and stool specimens.
• Observes and records patients’ intake and output.
• Takes temperature, pulse, blood pressure and respiration rate.
• Attends to patients’ hygiene and daily living needs.
• Moves, positions, lifts and transports patients using available aids.
• May transport patients and supplies on occasion.
• May perform limited housekeeping and cleaning duties related to direct patient care.
