Job summary

UNC Medical Center in Chapel Hill, NC is seeking a Nursing Assistant I (per diem) to join the Acute Neurosurgery and ENT Care Unit. This 12-hour rotating shift position offers minimum 24 hours per month with day/night coverage and weekend/holiday rotation.

You will provide routine direct and indirect patient care under the supervision of a registered nurse or physician, assist with examinations, measure vital signs, and support patients and families throughout admission, care, and discharge.

Qualifications

• Fluent in English and basic computer skills required.
• Prefer six months of nursing assistant experience.

Responsibilities

• Assist physicians and other health care providers with routine examinations and procedures, and obtain equipment during emergencies.
• In psychiatric settings, aid reality orientation and de-escalation.
• Observe and document patient information, report significant changes to RN/physician.
• Assist patients and families during admission, orientation, and discharge.
• Provide care and treatments per care plan, including vital signs, wound care, and ROM.
• Provide direct personal care for activities of daily living.
• Provide indirect care: clean work area, restock supplies, transport patients/equipment.
• Reinforce patient education and distribute educational materials.
