Job summary

UNC Health Care seeks a Nursing Assistant I per diem for the GI Surgery Acute Care unit (6 Memorial) at UNC Medical Center in Chapel Hill. Shifts are 12 hours, day or night, with weekend/holiday rotation; minimum 12 hours every 2 weeks.

Per diem/on-site position in a high-quality, multi-disciplinary environment. Responsibilities include direct and indirect patient care under RN/physician supervision, routine vital signs, specimen collection, wound and ostomy care, and patient education.

Qualifications

• NC Nursing Assistant I licensure required (North Carolina DHHS)
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• Preferred six months of nursing assistant experience
• Fluent in English; basic computer skills

Responsibilities

• Assist physicians and health care providers with routine examinations/procedures and equipment in emergencies.
• In psychiatric settings, provide support, de-escalation, and aseptic-care assistance as directed.
• Observe and document patient information; report significant changes to RN/physician.
• Assist patients and families during admission, orientation, and discharge.
• Provide care per plan of care: vital signs, measurements, specimen collection, wound care, ROM, etc.
• Provide direct personal care for activities of daily living (bathing, dressing, feeding, ambulation).
• Perform indirect tasks: clean/stock area, transport, orientation of new staff, routine clerical tasks.
• Reinforce patient teaching and distribute education materials as needed.
