Job summary

UNC Health Care's UNC Medical Center in Chapel Hill is seeking a Nursing Assistant I for the Acute Neurosurgery and ENT Care Unit. This per diem, at-will position supports post-operative neurosurgical and ENT patients with direct and indirect care and helps maintain a safe, compassionate patient environment.

Shifts are 12 hours (7am–7:30pm or 7pm–7:30am) with rotating days, nights, weekends and holidays, and a minimum of 24 hours per month.

Qualifications

• NC Nursing Assistant I licensure is required.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Prefer six months of nursing assistant experience.
• Fluent in English and able to use basic computer skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide routine direct and indirect patient care under RN or physician supervision.
• Assist with examinations and procedures and manage supplies during emergencies.
• Support psychiatric patients with orientation, de-escalation, and safety monitoring.
• Observe and document patient information and report changes promptly.
• Assist with admissions, orientation, and discharge; support families.
• Perform vital signs, wound care, catheter care, glucose, and activities of daily living as outlined.
• Maintain clean, stocked work areas and help with patient transport.
• Reinforce patient education and distribute educational materials.
