As a Nursing Assistant at Henry Ford Genesys Hospital, you'll be at the heart of patient care—working directly with registered nurses to deliver compassionate, age-appropriate care that makes a real difference in patients' lives. You'll combine hands‑on clinical skills with genuine interpersonal connection, supporting patients through their healthcare journey while maintaining the highest standards of safety and professionalism.

Key Responsibilities:

Patient Care & Comfort

Deliver direct patient care that promotes healing and dignity. Assist with essential activities including bathing, grooming, mobility support, and transfers—using proper body mechanics and transfer techniques to ensure patient and personal safety. Monitor and respond to patient comfort needs through repositioning, pain level assessment, and coordination with nursing staff. Maintain patients' hygiene and skin integrity through regular turning and cleanliness protocols. Perform non‑sterile treatments and help prepare patients for procedures and surgery, ensuring they feel supported and informed throughout.

Vital Monitoring & Observation

Serve as an extra set of eyes and ears for the nursing team. Obtain and record vital signs, weights, and patient information with accuracy and attention to detail. Observe and report on patient elimination patterns, respiratory status, skin condition, pain levels, and any unusual changes in patient condition. Recognize early warning signs—such as respiratory distress, skin temperature changes, or pressure areas—and communicate findings promptly to nursing staff. Your keen observations directly impact patient safety and clinical decision‑making.

Teamwork & Communication

Communicate effectively with registered nurses, physicians, patients, and families—keeping everyone informed about patient progress, concerns, and completed tasks. Perform other related duties as assigned and directed by nursing leadership.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

Certified BLS Provider specializing in Basic Life Support credentialed from the American Heart Association (AHA) obtained within 3 Months (90 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. - Current Michigan certification as a Nurse Aide is required at hire or must be obtained prior to hire, or at least 6 months acute care Nurse aid or Patient Care Technician experience required, or have completed the first year of clinical rotation in a school of nursing required. It is not required for Nursing Assistants to maintain certification after hire while actively working in the Nursing Assistant role. - Certification is not required for internal transferees; renewal is not required. - Nurses Aide certification is not required for applicants who have completed the first year of clinical rotation in a school of nursing. Education: - High School diploma or equivalent from an accredited program required. - Some experience preferred.
