Job summary

Essentia Health in Duluth, Minnesota is seeking a compassionate Nursing Assistant to join our Med/Surg Float Pool. You will provide direct patient care under RN supervision, assist with hygiene, nutrition, and vital signs, and help maintain a safe, healing environment.

Qualification requires either prior Nursing Assistant experience or completion of approved training and registry verification, with a potential to join via Essentia Health Foundation Course within the specified timelines.

Qualifications

• Must meet one of the listed nursing assistant requirements.
• BLS certification or ability to become certified within 1 month from hire.
• Enrollment in the Essentia Health Foundation Course within 90 days of hire (East Market region).
• Current registration on the state nursing assistant registry.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care and assist with hygiene and nutrition needs.
• Offer comfort care and other assistance while ensuring safety.
• Transfer patients safely and take vital signs with recordkeeping.
• Report changes in patient condition to the RN promptly.
• Maintain a safe, clean environment to support healing.

Become part of Essentia’s accomplished team in Duluth, Minnesota on the beautiful shores of Lake Superior! We are looking for a Compassionate Nursing Assistant to join our Med/Surg Float Pool at Essentia Health Duluth - Miller Dwan!

Education Qualifications

Must meet one of the following requirements:

• 6 months of nursing assistant experience
• Completion of one semester of clinical rotations within an accredited nursing program
• Enrollment into the Essentia Health Nursing Assistant Foundation Course within 30 days of hire
• Verifiable completion of a recognized nurse aide training program
• Current registration on applicable state nursing assistant registry

Work Schedule and Hours

32 hours every two weeks

Every other weekend

Rotating 8 Hour Shifts

Day Shift: 6:00am - 2:30pm

Evening Shift: 2pm - 10:30pm

Night Shift: 10pm - 6:30am

Responsibilities

As a Nursing Assistant, you are responsible for providing direct care to patients and serving the needs of patients in a manner conducive to their safety and comfort, under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse, Nurse Manager, Assistant Head Nurse, and/or Department Director (possibly with guidance from an LPN) to contribute to meeting the mission and goals of Essentia Health. Works within job scope to meet the requirements of the Joint Commission and other applicable federal, state and local regulatory and accrediting agencies. Duties will vary by patient care unit/department and include but are not limited to:

• Providing personal hygiene care, assisting with nutritional needs
• Providing comfort care and other assistance
• Appropriately and safely transferring patients
• Taking vital signs and completing recordkeeping
• Recognizing and promptly reporting changes in patient condition to the RN
• Maintaining a safe, clean environment for patients to promote the healing process.

Licensure/Certification Qualifications

BLS certified or ability to become certified within 1 month from hire date

If qualified through the Essentia Health Foundation Course East Market (Excluding WI): Completion of Essentia Health Nursing Assistant Foundation course within 90 days of hire
