Job description

This position is located in the Nursing Department of the LA Veterans Home in Jackson, Louisiana.

This is a Full-Time Position offering a starting rate of $13.74 (CNA 1 Special Entrance Rate) and $14.70 (CNA 2 Special Entrance Rate) per hour (base pay), with shift differentials and a premium pay of $3.00 per hour worked.

Shift Differentials
  • Weekdays: $2.50
  • Weekends: $2.50
  • Holidays: $2.50
  • Weekend Holidays: $3.00

Note: The advertised maximum salary reflects the highest amount a person can earn in this title/level over their career, not the maximum starting salary for a new hire.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Six months of experience or training in patient care; OR
  • Possession of a current Certified Nursing Assistant certificate; OR
  • Completion of an accredited Nursing, Practical Nursing, Medical Assistant, or Emergency Medical Technician program.
Note:

Positions at facilities receiving Medicaid or Medicare funds require a current CNA certificate.

Received from a Registered Nurse, Practical Nurse, or higher; no supervision exercised.

Job Distinctions
  • Differs from Nursing Assistant 2 by the absence of advanced duties and lead responsibilities.
  • Differs from Nursing Unit Aide by responsibility for performing sub-professional nursing duties.
Duties include:
  • Measuring vital signs and recording in medical records.
  • Assisting with patient activities like ambulating, feeding, bathing, positioning, and lifting.
  • Sterilizing equipment and supplies.
  • Distributing linen and caring for patient clothing.
  • Collecting and labeling laboratory specimens and diagnostic test results.
  • Monitoring patient condition and reporting changes.
  • Transporting patients and providing care for infectious diseases as needed.
  • Cleaning rooms and changing linens.
  • Performing procedures such as enemas and skin care.
  • Completing training programs such as CPR, First Aid, and infection control.
  • Maintaining necessary certifications.
  • Work may involve shift work.
