Overview

University Correctional Health Care (UCHC), operating within Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is dedicated to providing physical, mental, dental, and sex offender treatment services to individuals involved in the criminal justice system in New Jersey. UCHC has a budget of $150 million and approximately 1,000 staff.

Position Summary

Rutgers UCHC is hiring a full‑time Nursing Assistant for Southwoods State Prison in Bridgeton, New Jersey. The Nursing Assistant provides direct care to inmates under the supervision of a Physician, Physician’s Assistant, Registered Nurse, or Licensed Practical Nurse.

Responsibilities

• Implement physician or associate practitioner orders within the scope of practice under a Registered Nurse.
• Assist with feeding, bathing, and other activities of daily living (ADLs) as needed for inmates.
• Support the physician or associate practitioner with procedures, including preparing inmates for examination.
• Clean, sterilize, and secure equipment in the Health Service Unit.
• Maintain or assist in maintaining supply stock by ordering in a timely and appropriate manner.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an approved Certified Nurse Aide program with current New Jersey certification as a Nursing Assistant.
• Minimum education and experience in nursing assistance.

Certifications & Licenses

• Current CPR certification.
• Valid driver’s license approved by the New Jersey Department of Corrections.

Compensation

Minimum Salary: $20,410; Mid‑Range Salary: $20,910; Maximum Salary: $21,540.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

Must be physically capable of performing CPR for at least 10 minutes and of lifting and rotating patients who are unable to ambulate (up to 50 pounds). The role requires a full onsite work arrangement.
