Position Overview

Licensed Practical Nurse – Full Time – Southwoods State Prison, Bridgeton, NJ. The position is in the University Correctional Health Care (UCHC) division of Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey.

Responsibilities

• Administer total patient care in accordance with professional nursing standards.
• Provide technical nursing care under direction of a Registered Nurse, perform treatments and procedures within guidelines.
• Participate in data collection related to patient status and needs.
• Communicate relevant information to Registered Nurse to incorporate into care plan.
• Deliver direct patient care within scope of practice and ensure implementation of the plan of care.
• Inform and instruct patients and significant others on health status and plan of care.
• Assist patients and significant others in discharge preparation and health maintenance at home.
• Document all aspects of patient care.

Qualifications

• Graduate from an accredited Nursing Program.
• Valid registration as a Licensed Practical Nurse in the State of New Jersey.
• CPR certification.
• Valid driver’s license and own vehicle or alternative transportation between sites.

Preferred Qualifications

• At least six (6) months experience in an acute hospital setting.

Physical Demands

Must be able to perform CPR for at least 10 minutes and lift/rotate patients up to 50 pounds.

Special Conditions

Must be approved by the Department of Corrections (DOC) and adhere to all DOC requirements.
