Job summary

Cayuga Health is seeking a Nursing Assistant to work onsite at Cayuga Medical Center in Ithaca, NY. You will assist with activities of daily living, monitor patients, and report changes to the RN. The role requires high school diploma and BLS training (provided if needed).

CNA preferred and prior patient care experience is valued. Shift pattern includes three 12-hour night shifts per week with weekend/holiday coverage as assigned.

Qualifications

• BLS certification will be provided if needed.
• Preferred NYS Nursing Assistant Certification (CNA).
• Previous patient care experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Direct Patient Care - toileting, ambulating, repositioning, and monitoring.

• Reinforce education with patients, e.g. incentive spirometer use and fall prevention.
• Maintain a clean and organized bedside area; hourly rounding on each patient.

Summary: Nursing Assistants are responsible for working closely with the nurse to provide excellent direct patient care. This person supports activities of daily living (ADL's) with patients and prevents complications.

Roles and Responsibilities

• Direct Patient Care - Toileting, ambulating, repositioning, monitoring and recording intake and output of fluids, recording patient weight, obtaining vital signs, and reporting abnormal findings or changes in the patient's conditions to the RN.
• Reinforcing education with patients; i.e. incentive spirometer use, and fall prevention.
• Maintaining a clean and organized patient bedside area to ensure a safe workspace.
• Intentionally rounding on each patient every hour.

Required Skills and Experience

• High school or equivalent experience
• BLS - will be provided if needed

Preferred Skills and Experience

• NYS Nursing Assistant Certification (CNA)
• Previous patient care experience

Physical Requirements

Frequent hand and finger use (e.g. to operate a computer keyboard). Lifting and carrying items up to 40 lbs. (e.g. boxes, equipment, IV solutions), with or without reasonable accommodation. Ability to stoop, kneel, or crouch for tasks such as retrieving items from lower shelves or filing in low drawers. Ability to sit, stand, or walk for extended periods, as the position may require. Capacity to operate job‑related equipment, with or without reasonable accommodation.

Location and Shift Information

Location: Onsite at Cayuga Medical Center: 101 Dates Drive, Ithaca, NY 14850 Shift: Three 12-hour shifts 7pm - 7am per week, every other weekend and holidays as assigned 0% Travel can be expected in this role Mandatory Orientation Training completion required: one full week of Monday through Friday 8a-4p prior to starting work on the unit.

Pay Range Disclosure
