The mission of the Louisiana Veterans Homes is to primarily serve the Veterans population of Louisiana through the provision of medical, restorative, and rehabilitative services in an atmosphere of respect and compassion. The primary objective of the home is to provide quality nursing care to eligible veterans with the ultimate goal of returning the veterans to the highest possible levels of physical and mental capacity. This position is located in the Nursing Department of the LA Veterans Home in Jackson, Louisiana.
Candidates possessing a valid Certified Nursing Assistant certificate are encouraged to apply.
This is a PT/PRN/WAE appointment that pays $20 hourly (base pay) plus shift differentials (SEE BELOW).
WAE positions will work a maximum of 1,245 hours in a 12-month period.
Note regarding the advertised pay range: The advertised maximum amount listed is the maximum salary a person can make while in this title/level over their career and not the maximum amount we are allowed to pay a new hire.

Positions at facilities receiving certain Medicaid or Medicare funds require applicants to possess a current Certified Nursing Assistant certificate.
To perform routine sub-professional nursing duties in the care and comfort of patients.
Experienced.
General supervision from a Registered Nurse, Practical Nurse--Licensed, Nursing Assistant 2, or higher-level personnel.
None.
May be used by all state agencies.
Measures temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure, height, and weight; records in patient’s medical record.
May assist with documenting admission of new patients on medical records.
Provides care such as ambulating, feeding, bathing, positioning, and lifting.
May sterilize equipment and supplies.
Distributes clean linen, washes, dries, sorts, folds, and stores patients’ clothing.
Collects, labels, and transports laboratory specimens as assigned.
Collects and files diagnostic test results.
Observes patients’ condition and reports changes to the charge nurse.
Transports patients to examinations, clinics, or recreational sites.
May be required to care for patients with infectious diseases.
Cleans rooms and changes bed linens.
Performs procedures like enemas and skin care as directed by a nurse.
Performs all duties that may be performed by the unit aide.
Successfully completes training programs such as CPR, First Aid, infection control, and others maintaining hospital standards.
Maintains necessary certifications.
Work may involve shift work.
