Summary Statement
This position, under a Nurse, provides and assists with daily living skills, activities, and quality care for residents with intellectual disabilities. Duties include assisting with feeding, toileting, ambulation; visual observations; monitoring and recording vitals; implementing plans and therapeutic plans; ensuring safety and well-being; and other related duties. The State provides tuition costs for CNA schooling at an approved vendor's location.

Essential Functions
Essential functions are core duties common to all positions in this class series. Incumbents may perform similar duties not specifically listed here.

  • Attend required classes on facility policies, nursing support methods, safety/security.
  • Receive hands-on training observing and assisting professional staff.
  • Monitor and record vital signs; alert staff to irregularities.
  • Implement prescribed treatment plans and report changes.
  • Observe and report individual activities and behaviors.
  • Supervise individuals ensuring safety and security.
  • Escort individuals to activities and appointments.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary care team discussions.
  • Apply interventions to manage behaviors.
  • Assist with personal hygiene and maintain sanitary surroundings.

Job Requirements
Applicants must demonstrate competence in:

  • Six months' experience with laws, rules, policies, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of nursing procedures like monitoring vital signs.
  • Ability to write narrative reports.

Conditions of Hire
Includes pre-employment drug testing, TB testing, criminal background check, and legal work authorization. The position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement.
