Job summary

Lake Charles Memorial Health System is seeking a Certified Nursing Assistant to support patient care and comfort, under the direction of the licensed nursing staff. The role includes basic charting, daily living activities, and timely communication of patient condition variations.

Qualifications include a high school diploma or GED, completion of an approved Nursing Assistant program, CPR certification preferred, and basic computer skills.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates competency in use of technology and computers for patient charting and related functions.
  • Provides physical patient care in a safe manner under the direction of the Licensed Nurse.
  • Performs or assists patient with activities of daily living (showering, bathing, dressing, feeding, activity).
  • Communicates abnormal variances of data (vital signs, pain, etc) to appropriate staff.
  • Collects information regarding patient/patient condition: vital signs, intake and output, food intake.
  • Consistently utilizes basic decision making skills to complete routine tasks.
  • Participates in best practices in a consistent and positive manner; huddles, hourly rounding, bedside reporting, Service Excellence, and the use of the white boards.
  • Collaborates with unit staff to provide coordinated patient care.
  • Utilizes unit specific equipment competently.
  • Competently performs unit specific procedures.
  • Is knowledgeable of and actively participates in implementation of Unit PI plan.
  • Makes suggestions/recommendations for improved operations.
  • Follows established hospital/department safety policies.
  • Understands and appropriately responds to the unique combination of cultural variables that professionals and patients/individuals bring to interactions.

The Certified Nursing Assistant performs various patient care activities and related non-professional services necessary in caring for the personal needs and comfort of patients. They also assist the professional and technical nursing staff by performing any delegated duties, specialized procedures, and assists with care of seriously ill patient.

SUPERVISION

Reports directly to Nurse Manager and/or Charge Nurse

Responsibilities And Duties

Education And Work Experience
  • High school graduate/GED preferred Prior experience as a Nursing Assistant in a hospital setting may be used as a substitute to the education requirement.
  • Graduate of an approved Nursing Assistant Training Program preferred.
  • CPR certified preferred.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Ability to communicate professionally with patient, family, peers and medical personnel; ability to exercise independent judgment.
  • Requires emotional stability and maturity; must be adaptable to change, be decisive, and demonstrate foresight; exhibits organizational and leadership ability.
Physical Demands/Work Environment
  • Work requires a variety of physical activities including standing and walking for long periods of time, bending, stooping, and lifting.
  • The work environment may be physically confining.
  • Visual acuity is required for a variety of specific activities.
  • Must have normal hearing or utilize adaptive hearing devices if duties require listening with a stethoscope to discern breath sounds, heart sounds, and bowel sounds.
  • Ability to do shift work as required.
