Job summary

Duncan Regional Hospital in Oklahoma seeks an RN student to assist with patient care under RN supervision, including turning, moving, and monitoring vital signs. Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Assist with turning, moving, or ambulating patients under RN direction.
  • Check vital signs, finger sticks, and basic patient measurements.
  • Clean rooms and bed linens; stock supplies for patient care.
  • Assist with some medical procedures and transport patients as needed.
  • Communicate effectively with licensed staff and maintain patient confidentiality.
  • Adhere to infection-control policies and safety protocols at all times.
  • Document patient care services accurately and promptly.
  • Verify equipment maintenance needs and report issues.
  • Collaborate with health care teams and participate in problem-solving.
  • Maintain punctual attendance and adapt care for individual patient needs.
  • Engage in continuing education opportunities; comply with vaccination requirements.
  • Utilize assistive devices for lifting; respirator fit testing may be required.

Responsibilities
  • Provides patient care, under the direction of the registered nurse (RN), which may include but is not limited to turning, moving, or ambulating patients, gathering medical supplies, checking vital signs, finger sticks, cleaning rooms and bed linens, stocking supplies, assisting with some medical procedures, and transporting patients.
  • Effective communication with the licensed staff.
  • Protects patients and team members by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols.
  • Documents patient care services timely and accurately.
  • Maintains patient confidence and protects operations by keeping information confidential.
  • Ensures operation of equipment by verifying preventive maintenance requirements are completed, calling for repairs, and evaluating new equipment and techniques.
  • Maintains a cooperative relationship among health care teams by communicating information and participating in team problem‑solving methods.
  • Regular attendance and punctuality for scheduled shifts.
  • Appropriately adapts assessment, treatment, and/or care methods to accommodate the physical, cultural, age‑specific, and other developmental needs of each person served.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge through continuing education opportunities including internal and external educational offerings.
  • Must adhere to safety protocols at all times.
  • Utilization of assistive devices for lifting is mandatory.
  • Per DRH policy, all required conditions of employment must be met and maintained including required vaccinations.
  • This position requires respirator and fit testing; required testing will be performed on all team members at risk for exposure to airborne infectious diseases, droplet producing procedures, or any caustic chemicals.
  • Implement DRH Standards of Behavior and exhibit behaviors consistent with DRH core values.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Education and/or Experience: Current enrollment in good standing in an RN program. Proof of satisfactory completion of competency check offs for the associated skills listed above.

Minimum Qualifications: Communication skills including fluency in oral and written English. Basic computer skills including the ability to send/receive email, navigate information technology associated with the position, and use Electronic Health Record information tools. Ability to remain flexible to quickly adapt to urgent situations. Ability to adapt procedures, processes, tools, equipment, and techniques to accomplish the requirements of the position.

Certifications, Licenses, Registrations: American Heart Association BLS required; may have up to 30 days from date of hire or transfer to earn BLS. For positions requiring travel, a current valid driver’s license and automobile liability insurance must be maintained.

Safety‑Sensitive Position: This is a "Safety‑Sensitive" Position as defined by Oklahoma law. As such, applicants cannot test positive in pre‑employment drug tests or any drug tests administered after employment begins for the presence of Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). This is true even if the applicant is in possession of a valid medical marijuana card that otherwise allows the license‑holder to legally use and consume medical marijuana.
