You will assist with general patient care on a 21-bed Med/Surg unit focused on patients 65+. Duties include vitals, daily care, and supporting the care team under RN supervision.

The role offers night shifts (7:00pm–7:30am) with a 24-hour weekly schedule and a strong emphasis on geriatric care, teamwork, and safe patient handling in a busy hospital setting.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED.
• BLS certification within 90 days of start date.

Responsibilities

• Assist with basic patient care tasks under RN supervision.
• Record vitals and report observations to the care team.
• Provide bedside care including baths and mobility assistance.
• Support wound care and catheterization as directed.

The ACE unit/1D (Acute Care of the Elderly) is a 21-bed Med/Surg unit at Blodgett Hospital. Our focus is on medical patients who are over the age of 65. Nurse Techs are often drawn to 1D because of their passion for our geriatric population while becoming competent in a wide variety of diagnosis. Since we are a Med/Surg unit, we care for patients with a vast array of diagnosis including Congestive Heart Failure, COPD, Septic Shock, Acute Kidney Injuries, Delirium and many more. Teamwork is vital within our unit and the staff work to ensure sound communication with the whole care team.

About The Hospital

Blodgett is an ever-growing, 330-bed acute care teaching hospital located in East Grand Rapids. Originally founded in 1846, Blodgett has continued to grow and evolve to meet the needs of the community. As a Level III trauma campus with a large annual surgical volume, we are equipped to care for a wide range of acute care patients. We offer numerous specialty units that provide care unique to Blodgett in Grand Rapids, including Total Joint Replacement, a Primary Stroke Center, Acute Care of the Elderly, and Bariatric Surgery. With units ranging from 20 to 24 beds, we foster close-knit teams while still providing highly specialized acute care. Our inpatient nursing units also partner with our discharge lounge and virtual nursing teams housed at Blodgett, as well as 24/7 hospital supervisor and security support. Recently, we welcomed external partner sites for Meijer Pharmacy and Starbucks. This fall, we will also offer on-site parking to all team members. Together, these resources and partnerships create a supportive environment where team members can thrive while delivering exceptional patient care.

Scope of work

Acts as a team member in the delivery of quality patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) or Provider. Performs basic skills per department guidelines and communicates observations to members of the health care team. Collects and reports physiological, psychological, sociocultural and spiritual needs of patients and families in coordination with and as delineated by the RN or Provider. Responsibilities include taking vitals, checking blood sugars, bed bathing, ambulating, wound care, catheterization and acting as a safety attendant for patients. Ensures that the required documentation is performed in an accurate and timely manner.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED
• AHA or ARC Basic Life Support (BLS) Required within 90 day
