We have an exciting opportunity for a full-time Nurse Supervisor to join our team of talented professionals.

The Nurse Supervisor of Psychiatric Services is responsible to guide, mentor and schedule the medical assistants, registered nurses and licensed practical nurses of TGC’s psychiatric services/programs. This supervision is expected to demonstrate a client-centered approach and to align with regulatory requirements, payer expectations, and organizational goals while promoting high-quality care, strong customer experience, and effective utilization of services. This role supervises nurses and medical assistants throughout TGC’s CMH services in coordination with each program’s manager and or supervisor. This role supervises staff in multiple agency locations, and operates in a union environment.

Supervision and Strategy

• Provide supervision and problem solving for TGC nursing and medical assistant staff.
• Recommend strategies to improve universal precautions, infection control, quality improvement, documentation, reduction in wait times, and customer satisfaction.
• Train and supervise nursing and medical assistant staff in medically related continuous quality improvement initiatives.
• Collaborate with psychiatrists and program supervisors and staff on client care and staff service flow.

Clinical Oversight

• Ensure all nursing and medical assistant protocols and practices meet the current clinical standard of care.
• Supervise staff injection technique and assessments (hand hygiene, 5 Rights, aseptic process, mixing steps, routes-sites-and-angles, disposal, post injection area sanitation, etc.)
• Supervise staff assessment (engagement, accuracy of documentation, accuracy of assessments, length of time spent, etc.)
• Supervise Medical Assistant staff practices (taking vitals, processing bridge requests, processing paperwork requests, communicating with team members).
• Support decision-making and intervention for complex or high-risk circumstances (client: inebriated, high blood pressure, high glucose, low oxygen, etc.)
• Model, and require of staff, trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and recovery-oriented practices

Operations and Workflow Management

• Supervise daily operations of nursing and medical assistant staff in collaboration with program supervisory staff.
• Monitor key performance indicators (e.g., universal precaution technique, alignment with best medical practices, no-show rates, completeness of documentation, responsiveness to other team requests, etc.)
• Recommend and draft protocols, procedures, lists and or tools, to document approved standards related to nursing and medical assistant care.
• Recommend improvements to optimize use of electronic health records (EHR) and data systems
• Ensure clients, families, and other visitors consistently receive exceptional customer service.

Staff Supervision and Development

• Supervise nursing and medical assistant staff in all TGC CMH-related programs.
• Recruit, train, evaluate and retain high-performing staff
• Provide clinical supervision and recommend professional development opportunities
• Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and service excellence

Quality and Compliance

• Recommend, implement, and enforce program policies, procedures, and protocols.
• Address client complaints, incidents, and health-risk issues
• Maintain audit readiness and oversee documentation quality
• Ensure compliance with Federal, State, Medicaid, and The Joint Commission accreditation standards
• Implement and monitor Total Quality Management (TQM) Committee quality improvement initiatives within assigned areas.
• Use nursing and medical assistant data to inform recommendations for system improvements

Collaborative Partnerships and Community Relations

• Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with internal teams.
• Participate in assessment of community needs and service gaps.
• Work cross-functionally to reduce barriers and enhance services.

Other Responsibilities

• Carry an agency cell phone as needed.
• Adhere to professional codes of ethics and agency policies and procedures.
• In the instance of a staff shortage, take vitals and provide injections as needed to prevent decompensation.
• Participate in committees, task forces, and work groups as assigned.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Complete a minimum of 24 hours of agency requirements-
• Complete position-specific training / certifications annually.
• Maintain professional licensure.

Work Schedule

• Regular hours: Monday–Thursday, 8:30 a.m.–8:00 p.m.; Friday, 8:30 a.m.–5:00 p.m.

Requirements

To qualify for this position, you must have the following:

• Associate or Bachelor’s degree in nursing with full Registered Nurse State of Michigan licensure.
• Minimum one (1) year of managerial leadership experience related to nursing while serving clients with serious emotional disturbance (SED), and/or serious mental illness (SMI) and/or substance use disorders (SUD).
• Meets criteria for Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP) and Certified Children’s Mental Health Professional (CMHP) Qualified Intellectual Disability Professional (QIDP) within 120 days of hire.
• Demonstrated experience managing nursing and or medical assistants.
• Strong knowledge of behavioral health service delivery, levels of care, and behavioral and physical assessments
• Valid driver’s license and favorable driving record
