Position Summary:

The Supervisor will be responsible for the administrative and clinical functioning of a Children's Outpatient team consisting of staff from various disciplines. This shall include all the functions necessary for the delivery of services to the institutions and client populations of the community served by the program. Regular working hours are Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m. with some Saturday Clinic hours. However, in order to provide adequate supervision on the unit, it is required that all Children's Outpatient Clinical Supervisors either work after 5:00 p.m. at least 1-2 evenings per week, or devise a mutually agreed upon schedule that ensures a supervisor on the unit at all times. Based on the needs of the program, additional hours may be expected on weekends. Position is in the field of social work, counseling, psychology, and/or psychiatry.

Responsibilities:
  1. Appropriately handle crisis situations, manage risks, and make difficult decisions and then communicate these to the Director and other administrative staff as needed.
  2. Managing staff and department within span of control, including but not limited to: interviewing, selecting, and training of staff; setting and adjusting hours of work; directing work and assignments; appraising and evaluation of staff work performance; handling of staff complaints and grievances; disciplining employees; making recommendation with particular weight as to the termination of staff.
  3. Work as a team with all leaders and staff in the program to ensure adequate coverage of intakes and clinical services as well as supervision on the unit during all office hours.
  4. Provide administrative and clinical supervision to staff members utilizing a variety of treatment methodologies.
  5. Responsible for management of all staff within span of control (including but not limited to): hiring, performance management, performance monitoring and coaching, evaluation, disciplinary investigations and documentation, grievance administration, and termination recommendations.
  6. Responsible for participating in monthly Total Quality Management Committee meeting, actively implement the agency’s quality improvement initiatives within their assigned areas, monitor the implementation and adherence to the established quality improvement initiatives, activities and policies.
  7. Review and organize all reports pertaining to the treatment and rendering of services to clients.
  8. Ensure smooth case transitions from COP to other TGC programs and other TGC transfers to COP through collaboration and use of agency protocol.
  9. Attend Total Quality Management, inter-departmental Clinical Case Conferences and any other meetings as requested by the Director.
  10. Supervise case program consultations with staff.
  11. Assess community needs and assign priorities and direct and provide service when indicated.
  12. Assess need for psychiatric and psychological services and monitor delivery.
  13. Work in conjunction with inter-departmental groups to ensure smooth and consistent administration of the program.
  14. Complete documentation, referrals, and other required paperwork as required.
  15. Participate in hiring new staff, including reviewing resumes, scheduling and conducting interviews and coordinating with Human Resources throughout the process.
  16. Make recommendations regarding the hiring, evaluations, and disciplining of staff.
  17. Provide constant and consistent feedback to staff regarding performance.
  18. Conduct regular staff meetings and keep records of such.
  19. Provide day-to-day supervision of staff.
  20. Monitor staff performance and ensure caseloads are current and productivity standards are being met.
  21. Assume responsibility for reports required by the agency or funding sources.
  22. Participate in assessment of community needs and consult with community organizations as needed.
  23. Act as liaison and participate in agency committees as needed or assigned.
  24. Complete 25 hours of program and or position specific training on an annual basis.
  25. Work collaboratively with the Program Manager, Director and Finance to ensure funding requirements and budgetary guidelines are met. Other duties as necessary or requested.
Requirements
Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in social work, counseling, psychology, psychiatry or psychiatric nursing.
  • At least three (3) years of experience in mental health and at least one year of experience in a supervisory capacity or a senior clinician capacity.
  • Must possess and retain full licensure in the State of Michigan.
  • Must be eligible to become a Qualified Children's Mental Health Professional (CMHP) within 120 days of hire.
  • Additional requirements are good written and verbal communication skills as well as having the ability to be creative, flexible, and provide non-judgmental, culturally competent care. Individual must be highly organized and demonstrate competence in providing services to consumers of psychiatric and specialized services.
  • Must have the ability to appropriately handle crisis situations.
  • Must have valid driver's license and favorable driving record.
