Job summary

Kern Medical in Bakersfield, CA is seeking a Per Diem Registered Nurse to support our nursing teams in an acute care setting. You will provide direct patient care, assist in transferring patients, and collaborate with physicians and unit staff to ensure safe, efficient service.

This role requires a California RN license, a BSN or related degree preferred, and the ability to work a minimum of four shifts per month.

Qualifications

• Current California license as a Registered Nurse.
• Bachelor's degree in Nursing, Business or Health care administration or other related field.
• Three (3) years of paid full-time hospital experience as a Registered Nurse within past 5 years.
• Five (5) years of hospital RN experience with one year in a leadership role within past 7 years.
• May require specific certificates of competency depending on assignment.

Responsibilities

• Interprets hospital policies and ensures units operate per Nursing Department policies.
• Serves as a clinical resource for Nursing staff and advises Unit Managers on issues.
• Works with medical staff to facilitate inter-departmental communication and problem-solving.
• Evaluates staffing needs each shift and adjusts assignments hospital-wide.
• Performs patient care in emergency situations as required.
• Manages or oversees transfer requests and bed assignments for transfers.
• Performs telephonic patient triage and communicates clinical presentation to physicians.
• Follows transfer center guidelines and documents transfers appropriately.
