Job summary

Kern Medical in Bakersfield, CA is seeking a Nursing Shift Manager within Nursing Administration. The role supervises nursing practices during assigned shifts and provides clinical and administrative leadership across units.

Requirements include active California RN license, a Bachelor's degree in Nursing, Business or Health care administration, and 3 years of hospital RN experience (or 5 years with one year in a leadership role). The position offers competitive benefits and shift differentials.

Qualifications

• Current California license as a Registered Nurse.
• Bachelor's degree in Nursing, Business or Health care administration, or other related field.
• Three (3) years of paid full-time hospital RN experience, within the past five (5) years; or five (5) years total with at least one year in a charge nurse or leadership role within the past seven (7) years.

Responsibilities

• Interprets hospital policies and procedures for staff and monitors compliance; ensures nursing units operate per Kern Medical policies.
• Serves as a clinical and administrative resource for Nursing staff and advises Nurse Unit Managers on issues.
• Works with the medical staff to facilitate inter‑departmental communication and problem-solving.
• Assesses staffing needs each shift and adjusts assignments hospital-wide to meet demand.
• Performs patient care in emergencies as required.
• Oversees transfer requests from outlying facilities and coordinates admissions.
• Performs telephonic patient triage and communicates clinical presentation to accepting physicians.
• Ensures bed assignments and priority placement for transfer patients.
• Ensures preauthorization for non-emergent inpatient transfers and takes back agreements.
