UF Health seeks a Wound and Ostomy Specialist to assess, plan, implement and evaluate wound and ostomy care for inpatients across the hospital. You will provide direct patient care and education, and serve as a resource to the staff nurse and physician while contributing to case management.
The role requires strong communication, independence, attention to detail, and excellent assessment skills, with Florida RN licensure and BSN preferred. Certification in wound care within one year is expected.
Upon consultation, the Wound and Ostomy Specialist assesses, plans implements and evaluates wound and ostomy care on inpatients throughout the hospital. Provides direct patient care and education to selected patients. Serves as a resource and educator to the staff nurse and physician. Is an integral member of the treatment team and is responsible for the case management of specific patients an in working autonomously and in collaboration with the physicians. The Wound Care Specialist will serve as a resource and educator to physicians and patients when requested by the MD and as staffing permits in the outpatient clinic areas.
Age of Patients Served:All Age Groups.Required Education:Associate's Degree. Specific course work: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.New hires effective June 14, 2017, must have a BSN degree from an accredited school of nursing within three (3) years of hire or transfer into the position. New hires or transfers into in the position between August 1, 2013 and June 13, 2017 must abide with the conditions in his or her offer letter and the verbiage in the job description signed upon hire or transfer into the position. Current employees who were hired or transferred into in the position prior to August 1, 2013 will be grandfathered.Preferred Education:Bachelor's Degree in Nursing.Necessary Skills:1. Able to communicate effectively both orally and written.2. Excellent interpersonal skills in developing relationships with all members of the Health Care Team.3. Able to work independently.4. Displays attention to detail.5. Excellent assessment skills.Required Licensure/Certifications:Licensed to practice nursing in the state of FloridaBLS from the American Heart AssociationNational Wound Care certification within one year of hire or transfer; PRN status employees must have certification at time of hire.Required Experience:2-5 years - Med-surg, Intensive Care experience.Preferred Experience:Wound and Ostomy Nursing.
