Job summary

Novant Health is seeking a Wound/Ostomy Specialist RN to assess and manage complex wounds, educate patients, and collaborate with physicians and staff to improve outcomes. The position requires RN licensure, a wound certification, and ostomy certification, with a preferred BSN or higher.

Strong clinical skills and a commitment to evidence-based practice are essential. This role focuses on delivering advanced wound care, ostomy education, and cross-department teamwork to strengthen patient care

Qualifications

  • Wound/Ostomy course completion within 3 years of hire; certification within 6–12 months after program completion.
  • Ability to complete generic and department-specific skills validation and competency testing.

Responsibilities

  • Assess and manage complex wounds, including surgical wounds, pressure injuries, diabetic ulcers, burns, and other skin conditions.
  • Develop and implement individualized wound care treatment plans, including advanced therapies and dressing recommendations.
  • Educate patients, caregivers, and clinical staff on wound prevention, treatment, and ongoing care.
  • Provide preoperative and postoperative ostomy education and support.
  • Troubleshoot ostomy-related concerns, including leakage, skin irritation, and stoma complications.
  • Coordinate staff scheduling and patient assignments for Wound/Ostomy Services.
  • Collaborate across departments and markets to ensure efficient management of wound and ostomy supplies.
  • Support quality improvement initiatives, productivity goals, and clinical best practices.

What We Offer

The Wound/Ostomy Specialist RN provides expert wound, skin, and ostomy care through patient assessment, treatment planning, education, and clinical collaboration. This role partners with physicians, nurses, and interdisciplinary teams to improve patient outcomes, support evidence-based practice, and drive quality and efficiency across Wound & Ostomy Services.

What We're Looking For
  • Education:
    • 4 Year / Bachelors Degree, preferred. BSN preferred / BS considered.
    • 2 Year / Associate Degree, required. Nursing,
  • Experience:
    • Two years in clinical nursing, preferred.
  • Licensure/Certification:
    • RN license in Appropriate State, required.
    • Certification in wound, required.
    • Certification in Ostonomy, required.
  • Additional Skills (required):
    • Completion of Wound/Ostomy Course provided by accredited program. This must be completed within 3 years of hire and certification should be achieved within 6 months to 1 year after program is complete.
    • Ability to successfully complete generic and department-specific skills validation and competency testing.
